Bradley grow-up time, James/Pittman to lead

It is time for Bradley to play his best, give him 35-36 minutes a game.

James shoud only get 1.5 to 2 minutes a half break, preferrably with 7 minutes to go in each half. He needs to play with relaxed, Senior confidence from the offensive side while being unstoppable on the boards. Relax, but take over smartly.

Pittman needs to play 3 minute stretches, 1 minute on the bench as long as he can go.

Put Gary Johnson in the starting lineup and let him play 32-36 minutes a game. He has been the most consistent player all year.

Barnes needs to give Hamilton a one-on-one come to Jesus pep talk. Something like this:

Jordan, this team needs you to play under control. They need you to continue being a rebounding beast. They need you to deliver the good pass when you draw the tough D and take the open shot with relaxed confidence when it is there. Jordan, you can be the difference in this team when you are playing under control. Barnes needs to give him his support and Jordan is the kind of player to respond. Texas needs Jordan to respond, play under control, play smart.

J'C Brown needs to use his minutes as total opportunities to play defense and not turn the ball over. He needs to be ready to take the open 3 but he needs to look to make the correct, low risk, assist first. He needs to understand that he will be on teh bench if he turns the ball over without first producing 3 assists first.(meaning if he has 2 turnovers without having 6 assists he needs to sit)

I don't know what to do about Mason. He's a Senior but his play half the time is cancerous to the team. If he turns the ball over 2 times before he has 6 assists he should sit the rest of the game too.(this includes throwing bad passes through the hands of the bigs too)

The Seniors need to step it up and the Freshman need to grow up. I don't know if it can happen to get past this weekend but it certainly won't without important minutes from :
James,
Bradley,
Johnson,
Pittman,
Hamilton.
Those 5 need to lead the team in minutes and success.

Agree, but I still think the key to the team is how much/well JCB plays. You don't get to the Sweet 16 with a non-player like Mason at PG. Especially when John Wall is picking his pocket and throwing down half the Sportscenter top 10 at the other end.

Everyone needs to recognize that Justin Mason is the best guard Texas has at not turning the ball over. Really. that's one of the reasons he gets playing time.

I wouldn't make x number of assists before a turnover the criteria for evaluating Brown's performance. I would judge him on whether he is penetrating with the dribble or just lounging around the perimeter and whether he is sticking with his man on defense or sloughing off and drifting into the lane on the defensive end when his man doesn't have the ball.

Bradley is grown-up already. Go back and watch a replay of the Baylor game. He may have missed nearly all his shots in the second half, but how many of them were shots you would say were bad shots to take? 0 turnovers, 2 steals, 4 assists. He done good in a difficult game, despite the shooting percentage.

bierce - I like your first post. That is definitely where the focusness needs to be for Barnes.

As far as Mason, I think his ball-handling is only that good because the defense sags off of him. Notice how he rarely drives in the lane so as to not force the issue. If Mason had a defender on him, he would turn the ball over much more. Tweety Carter could have stolen the ball whenever he wanted in the Big 12 quarters, but Drew made him play back to cut off the passing lanes and create a clog in the middle.

Mason is not a PG. Never has been and never will be.

So... according to the assist:turnover ratio listed above, who's running the point starting with the 10 minute mark in the first half? No Mason. No Brown.

Put me in coach! I'm ready!

Max, that is exactly my point. Barnes is hamstrung with the point guard options so he needs to lay down the law. Take care of the ball or sit. Is TJ free this weekend?

They could grow up a lot and still only win one tournament game, but we will see. Lack of a true point guard may be this team's biggest problem.
