Bracketology 2/25....

Why isn't sending UNC out west to Phoenix, Memphis to Detroit, Tenn to Char, Texas to Houston a possibility?

For Tenn/Memphis, the difference between Houston/Char/Detroit is minimal (pretty sure its over 350 miles no matter what, so you're probably flying...). If you aren't going to give UNC Charlotte, just send them out west and restructure so you get 3 of the 4 #1's in favorable locations like it should be.

Likewise (but not the way I like it), why not have UNC at Charlotte, Tenn at Detroit, Memphis in Houston, and Texas in Phoenix? The way it is, 2 of the top 4 seeds are being punished by getting stuck in a bracket that is in the #2 seeds region (Xavier in Detroit and UCLA in Phoenix). I would much rather be in Xavier and UCLA's position in that bracket than Texas or UNC.

Edit:
Knoxville to Charlotte is 270ish miles, over 500 miles away from the rest of the regionals... Memphis is at least 550 miles away from any regional.

They're probably going to assign by S-Curve... that's what I would do. Texas would have to basically win out to have a chance to go to Houston.

But at least, right now, they have a chance.

I think my signing with ESPN.COM up to post a tongue lashing of Lunardi yesterday has paid off.

Glad he saw the light.

I am just not as pumped as some of you are for us playing in Houston. I know many of you will be able to attend and we should have somewhat of a "home" court there but..........having to play the first 2 rounds in Little Rock is a huge disadvantage, especially if Arkansas looms in the second round game. No matter who we play there will be a packed house rooting for our opponent. Should not be a problem in round 1 but round 2 will be tougher especially if it is Arkansas. I will take our chances somewhere else.

Just because youre in the Houston regional, doesn't mean you'll be playing in Little Rock. And even if we do play in Little Rock (which is a definite possibility), there's no way they let a 9-seed play at home.

I don't think we play anywhere but little rock for the opening rounds, thats about as set in stone as anything gets in regards to Texas.

Maybe Birmingham, but I just can't see us landing anywhere other than little rock.

I forgot about the pod system.

I still wish they would send us to a different place for the first 2 rounds. The fans that we have that will travel to the game would probably rather go anywhere other than Little Rock no matter how much farther it is.

There are committee members who are assigned to evaluate particular areas of the country. It would be wise for Deloss Dodds to contact the appropriate person before the meeting begins and let that individual know that LR is not the place he wants his team to go.

It might help, and it might not.

I don't know. I have been to two NCAA 1st/2nd round sites. The locals (read hilljacks from Arkansas) aren't really the kind that turn out for the games--unless their school is playing. Is there a chance Arkansas is in the Little Rock pod?

From what I see, outside of Memphis and Baylor not many of the teams have any history with Texas.

actually, I believe that was the year AFTER they won the national title. the tournament didn't go through Austin in 1994.

my greatest fear is being the #1 out west w/UCLA getting the 2

we would be getting royally ******

i dont think that happens if we win out....minus the conf champ game which i dont think makes a difference

It's been stated by the selection committee many times that they don't look past the 2 round many times when seeding teams. You can't predict who will win and who will play who all the time. The selection committee doesn't play that game.

that being said, looking at this bracketology, I would rather be a 2 seed in the South (houston regional) than the 1 seed in phoenix regional. I really thought that having the homecourt advantage in the SA regional during our final 4 run made a huge difference. The alamodome was a sea of burnt oragne. I would like to see the same at reliant in a few weeks
