where the **** can i find empty boxes? i've already been behind wally world and nope, none there.

Grocery stores are good, but you will have to arrange it with the grocery manager. Grocery stores crush their boxes into giant bails and send them off for recycling.

Liquor stores are a good source of strong, smaller boxes that are good for books and other heavy things. Bottles of liquor are heavy.

You can always buy moving boxes in perfect condition brand new at a Uhaul store.

when you go to grocery stores, try and get shampoo boxes, they are very strong and smaller.

Fruit boxes are great as well. Usually large, have lids you can take off, and handles.

Whatever you do, don't buy them!!! Such a massive rip-off!

I looked in our alley, but the liquor store down the way has already gotten rid of theirs.

Liquor stores and Bars are great... I've done it a few times and gotten hundreds of boxes that way... all with beautiful alcohol-related logos too

If you have to resort to buying boxes, there is a place (assuming you are in Austin) off of Rutland and Metropolitan called Econo Box. They are really cheap. Don't buy from Uhaul or walmart or anyone like that though. Durkee is right, finding used ones for is the best idea. Free is always best.

I had an *** load of used boxes last summer that I would have given to you but I used them all on moves over the past year.

Also, another thing you can do is go out the morning of trash day through a few neighborhoods and a lot of times people will have a bunch of boxes flattened out on the curb for the trash guys to get rid of.

i hope i don't have to resort to buying a box. that just seems like a waste of money.

thanks folks.

Banana and chicken boxes are great. They have lids that slide on and handle cut outs on the side. Ask your local grocer to save some of these for you. He should tell you a time that is best to pick them up and be prompt to pick them up. Otherwise they will break them down and put them in the masher.

I once again bigtime endorse banana boxes for the reasons listed above. All you have to do is cut up a lesser box to cover the open gap in the bottom, no biggie. They are perfect size to carry and very strong.

Stores restock bananas pretty often. Ask the produce people about when they do it. Offer to buy them a six pack of soda or something for their troubles. They will surely say that is not needed but then they usually ask your number and they may call you to let you know when they have some about to go out on the shelf. It is the offer above and beyond what others give that makes the impression and has them do the extra work. I wish they would take me up on the six pack sometime though. It is nice of them to save me the effort and give such good boxes.

Supposedly there is a company that rents boxes, pretty genius idea, but I have no clue what the name is.

Walmart after 10 pm

They stock at 10 and leave the empty boxes in the aisles. They are more than happy to let you walk out with a cartload of boxes for free.
