Bouldin Creek, Train Noise

Looking at buying a condo near Lamar and Mary. The train runs right by there and sounds pretty loud, at least from Maudie's parking lot.

Anyone live in this area, and know whether the trains blow all night long?

Mod's, sorry to use this board, but I'm in a hurry and the Around Austin board gets less action.

Thanks.

I live off of South First street between 71 and Oltorf and the train horn wakes me up at least a couple times a month between 2am and 4am -- honestly, I think my sleep cycle has me at a point where it is easy to wake up at that time. I think at that point the train is crossing Oltorf near Lamar. I wouldn't call it loud, but I'm not that close to it either. My hunch is it is a nightly occurence.

I live a few blocks from the train crossing at dittmar.

It comes by at about 10, 11, and in the middle of the night. Unless the wind is blowing right or the conductor is one of those jerks who lays on the horn, you get used to it pretty early and barely notice it.

Thanks for your replies. I'm an adjustable person, but the wife less so. She doesn't sleep well as it is.

BC, touche, mofo.

I live near Ave. F and North Loop. Despite the Mueller Airport being moved to Bergstrom, I'm still in the flight path. I hardly notice the noise except when I'm walking around in the back yard talking on the phone.

Previously, I lived at Enfield and MoPac and I got used to the white noise of the traffic.

There will be noise or some sort of nuisance anywhere you live (unless you're way out in the boonies). Just make a good financial or standard of living choice when you buy.

Excellent REM reference. I guess you can get there from here, afterall.

Tropheus, we may be neighbors.

I actually thought this thread was about Tranny Noise, I will move on.

FWIW, all the cities from Georgetown to San Antonio have passed resolutions supporting raiding some state fund to get the UPac trains off that track and use it for an Interregional commuter rail. So in the next 10 years, there will probably be fewer trains on the tracks.
