Bought a smoker...

I got a brand new smoker. It's nothing special, I got a smaller one because I can never see myself cooking more that 2 slabs of ribs and 2 briskets at once. Someone told me that I needed to season it before my first cooking attempt. He suggested coating the inside in vegetable oil and burning that off before trying to cook anything. Anyone heard of this or have any more suggestions for a smoking noob.

Season it for sure, that's the method I used and it works great.

The more you use it, the easier it gets, just like anything.

And it's addictive.

You have two options:

Liquid oil (veggie, peanut, corn, etc). & bacon.

For the purist, take a few slabs of bacon & work it all over the walls, underside, etc. of the smoker. Of course, this is for the luddite in you...

Use the first option.

I hate to break it to you, but you screwed up in the size. Everyone and mean everyone I know who owns a smoker that bought a small one at some point realizes they need a bigger one. The reason for me is that I want to stand my Turkey upright while cooking to give it the beer can chicken effect. Actually I want to do 2 turkeys that are upright, a brisket, a side of fish and a bunch of sausage for Thanksgiving next year.

and yes you need to season the inside of your pit
