Bora Bora/Tahiti

I had planned to go to Africa, but that will now be Summer 2009. It looks like the next option is Tahiti/Bora Bora. She actually wanted to do Fiji also, but we are only going for about 14 days inclusive. Wife likes the Lagoon Resort with the 'huts' on stilts over the water. Anything else I should look at? We have a 10 year old girl who is pretty flexible, but I sure would like to make it more than just another beach trip for her. Thanks, Rob.

we honeymooned in Bora Bora and stayed one night in Tahiti and the rest at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort

a few things to keep in mind:

1. Staying in Tahiti is not necessary.

2. Definitely spend a couple days in Moorea

3. Kids and Bora Bora aren't a great mix. We didn't see a single kid at the BB Lagoon Resort the entire time. It's a romantic destination for adults. That doesn't mean a kid won't enjoy, but if I was 10 I would have to get creative to enjoy myself for that length of time.

4. Not staying in an over-water bungalow is a travesty. Keep in mind that you will have NO privacy with your wife due to the fact that your child will be with you in the room.

5. If you are there for 14 days expect to spend $15K for flights, transfers, room, food etc

6. The place is absolutely the most beautiful place in the world

7. As mentioned, we stayed at BB Lagoon Resort. It's a nice place and we were 100% satisfied. When we go back we will stay at the Pearl Beach Resort. A bit more updated and upscale. All of the hotels have over-wated bungalows, so look around a bit.

8. There is no nightlife to speak of. There are some great restaurants, but that's about it if you wanted to have some fun after dark

9. definitely do the jungle excursion and there are plenty of swim with the sting ray/shark/etc trips to take

10. If you scuba dive, you will be in heaven. Snorkeling is equally as impressive but will ruin the snorkeling you do on other vacations (because nothing will live up to it)
