help the, I guess I'm a yankee, out. coming in for ACL Festival.

want a pair of, I think, basic black boots. tried this last year and had no luck at a Boot City.

the fit is the problem. have feet like a hobbit and big calves.

do I need to go custom? what's the name of the boot shop next to Taco Xpress on S. Lamar?

how much should I pay... want boots don't feel bad about beating up.

Just get a pair of black Justin Ropers. They're less than $100.

don't buy custom boots if you plan on beating them up. unless, of course, you have money to burn.

Never go with customs on your first pair. Just don't know if you'll wear them enough to warrant the price tag. Many of the nicer 'factory' made boots are just fine. Go to Allen boots on South Congress. I've bought everyone of my non-custom boots there and am always satisfied. They do specialize in Lucceshe (which I think are the best), so if you wanted a bigger selection of others, look elsewhere. Plus, if you want a pseudo custom boot, check out the Lucceshe classics (a handmade boot with a lifetime warranty) for half as expensive as custom.

Further than that, on the custom side, nowhere realyl this side of Mexico will be able to turn around your boots before ACL fest (thats considered one of the best). Most of the top custom shops will have a 3-24 month lead time.

Oh Prices

$200 or so for good calf skin.
$300-600 for Ostrich.
$400-800 for Lizard/Gator.

$500 for Calfskin Lucceshe Classics (I think)
$700 for Ostrich Lucceshe Classics (ibid)

Customs can range anywhere from
$600 (for entry level, in US) to $1500 for regular booots.
I know people that have spent $5000 or more. Over the top, imo.

thanks for the answers.

will give allen boots a try. my wide feet and high forefoot makes it tough to fit.

don't want ropers. want a reel heel. and something less rounded in toe.

the shop i referred to on South Lamar had some photos of boots he had done. real fancy stuff up on the uppers.

but if do go custom, know about the process figured I'd just be getting measured and paying out the coin.
