boot camp workout, side effects

talk about a tough workout, it's an hour long, this morning started with a mile run. I'm pretty competitive, tried to keep up with the first group, didn't have a chance but did finish strong. then another 45 minutes of hell. I can almost do all of the exercises, this is my 3rd week.

yesterday on the drive home, I started to fall asleep, I have a history of this, and am doing better with my mask. The window is already rolled down, I reach over and pickup my bottle of water, drink a couple of sips and immediately perk up. much better than before, when I would be in a fog all the way home.

Then this morning after the workout, I get to work, sit down in front of the computer and doze, with that feeling that I'm kind of in a position where I just need to put my head down, know what's going on around, just needed that extra sleep. then decided I was probably dehydrated, drank three glasses of water pretty fast, got hot, but feeling better.

I must get dehydrated pretty quickly. Amazing what water does.

I'm not a Dr or nutritionist but it sounds like low blood sugar levels.

I would also say you might try eating something to raise your blood sugar level before working out. Also, you should eat something high in protein within an hour after working out.

I would also throw in some electrolytes like Gatorade.

thanks, I have been drinking a large glass of carnation instant breakfast 45 minutes before the workout and of course water during. I need to do the protein snack right after working out.

I am really enjoying the burn. If I can get my eating habits going correctly, I might actually get to a decent level of fitness. Since there is no bootcamp tomorrow, I'm actually seriously considering going to the afternoon workout today, in addition to the workout just completed, then do nothing tomorrow.

I just looked up the symptoms of low blood sugar, and I do have some symptoms. I can't decide if another carnation instant breakfast after the workout would be good or not. I know it wouldn't hurt. Funny, the instant breakfast is chocolate flavored, but not enough for me, so I bought a huge can of nestle's quik and mixed it with the carnation.

Raisins or grapes would be good also.

okay, this is all coming together. I teach, and have been especially irritable at these darn kids, especially this year. Sometimes I feel like I'm on the verge of losing control. This kind of explains part of my problem. I'm sitting here right now, and have no desire to get up. Gave the kids an assignment and then began thanking the kids for doing things over and over again.

'thank you for sitting quietly, reading, facing the correct direction, reading quietly, not making noise, and reading quietly'

over and over again. Yes they got tired of it, but they're actually quiet right now, and most of them are reading.

wow!

I've done two boot camps and worked out with a trainer for 3 months last fall. I had the same issues with being fatigued, and under hydrated. You have to, have to, have to eat a little before a workout and something more substantial than a carnation instant breakfast. Eat a little after as well to keep your metabolism working and burning calories while you recover. Your body needs fuel to burn calories and fat, otherwise it'll burn muscle, which is not what you want. Eat one egg, or a half a banana, or some dried fruit and nuts.. before and after...and drink your daily allowance of water.

And good for your for making a lifestyle change orangecat!

What you put into your body the night before can help too. Bikers and endurance athletes prepare the night before with pasta type dinners. As long as you do it in moderation, don't load it with cheese, salt and other no-no's you can get benefit. Of course, don't eat right before bed.

An unsalted mixture of nuts with raisins in it could be a good thing. HEB has several in the bulk section and I cannot recall the one I get but it does the trick. Carnation is not the way to go as mentioned above. Your hydration is what you drank before and it is not easily replenished. Have a steady water intake and have fun with this and your new body.

At least your boot camp is not 4 months like mine was. Well, 2 months Basic or Boot and then AIT for two more which is about the same thing.

There are a fair amount of new studies out finding that low-fat chocolate milk after a serious workout is a great natural recovery drink --- good mix or proteins & carbs. Google it and see if it might help your symptoms.

i did forget to mention that. it is very likely your glycogen is all used up after the workout, hence a post workout meal/shake would be advisable.

and to loop's point, it isn't just about food the night before, the water you put in your body the night before is WAY more important than the water you put in your body the day of. if you are waiting ot hydrate until before the workout.... it is too late.

The magic pill was Motrin. They loved giving it out for just about anything and everything. The funny thing was that Motrin gave a false positive for THC for our drug tests. People were coming up hot quite often but merely said they took Motrin, gave a note from Battalion Aid and they were okay.

There were guys that would almost always have an authorized or known of supply of Motrin even if they had to make up an ailment. It was uphauling.

I had a roommate in the Army who broke his leg...on his first visit to the infirmary? Yeah Motrin and ice and come back in a few days if it kept hurting..

funny this took an Army turn. Many years ago, I won the drinking contest at Fort Leonard Wood during basic. There was something going around, everybody got it, symptoms included fever, hoarseness, weakness, etc.

The drill sgts. got tired of everybody going on sick call, because those morons I went to basic with would go on sick call at the drop of a hat, and be sent back to the company within about 3 hours.

Well I had the illness for about a week, decided I had enough and tried to go on sick call. That Sgt. threatened to not let me go, asked me if I was a Dr., etc, made me do PT before I went to the infirmary. The SGM even tried to talk me out of going.

My fever was high enough to be sent to the hospital. I went to the ARD ward, Acute Respiratory Disease ward, my temp eventually went up to 103.6, I was in the hospital for four days, I could barely talk.

So one day this E-2 or something gets all of us into this little room and we have a drinking contest, I probably drank well over a gallon of water, and waddled to the bathroom.

Don't remember if the water helped or not. I do remember those nurses waking us up every night to give us our medicine.

man, there's no telling what they gave us. They gave us plenty of pills in that hospital that's for sure. I was glad to get back to the troops, that way I could get some sleep.
