My favorite line: "When one reporter suggested to Rick Barnes that his Texas club had just beaten a good team, he shot back, "We're a good team."

How many silly puns can that man fit into one column? "Kan-do"?

Either way, hes right when he says this team can accomplish a lot if they have a team effort like they did tonight, every night. Lets see it in Waco on Saturday!

Yeah. Check this out -

This, my friends, is a horse race. And Texas won this one by a nose, the same one that figuratively got bloodied in an extremely physical contest in which the three refs almost had to get their stomachs pumped after swallowing their whistles.

Yikes. Enjoyed it though.

Certainly was good to read Kirk painting the glass half full instead of half empty when it comes to a Longhorn athletic program.

Should be noted that Bohls wrote an extensive piece for the Statesman yesterday (game day) all full of superlatives for the Kansas program. All of a sudden this morning, the Longhorn program apparently got his attention last night.

Well, guess what, Kirk, prior to last night this same squad had beaten #4 Tennessee and #6 UCLA. Now they have been a #3 Kansas.

I just did the math on the W-L of those three teams.
23-2 Kansas, 21-4 UCLA, 21-2 Tennessee

7 losses. Three of them to the Longhorns. By teams (at the start of this week) that were holding 3 of the top 6 spots.

It took last night's game for Kirk Bohls to write the kind of solid piece he wrote this morning about the Horns. I have my fingers crossed that Kirk will have an equal epiphany and start writing that way about the Longhorn football program that is on the cusp of dominating -- and I do mean dominating -- college football for the next 4-5 years if not longer. ( Okay, so that's a wild prediction, but I will make it where sports writers never take a chance to see into the future like that. My chief complaint is that a sports writer "gets it" only after it happens -- us fans see it coming and feel it in our bones. The Gilbert-Whaley era is going to shock the nation, and you read it here, February 2008. I won't wait until 3 years from now to shout about it. )

Nice piece, Kirk. I think you finally got it. Keep seeing the positives and potential of University of Texas athletics and write evenly, albeit still objectively, about the competition. Just don't forget that Burnt Orange kicks *** and doesn't ask for any names.

Texas (7-2), which has the same number of losses as Kansas but the tie-breaker advantage.

What is he talking about here. There is no North v. South Division champion in basketball, and it's the tournament winner, not the season winner that gets the automatic bid????

Well winning the Big 12 regular season to me means way more than the get hot and win 3 games tourney title. The tiebreaker does come into play if us and Kansas are tied at the end determining who gets the 1 seed but technically yes ties are co-champs.

Uh.... other than the overused puns what's wrong with the article.

The race isn't over - correct.
Kansas seems to bring out the best of the horns - correct.
Fortunate for horns, anything less wouldn't do - correct.

KU wondering how they lost to a pint-sized guard, gangly post, foul-prone (probably should have just said troubled) wingman, cold point guard - true, true, almost true, true.

Kansas has company - true.
Kansas has easier path - true.

UT needs to believe in itself - true.
Kansas 2nd five might finish the conf. top 5 - true.
UT could make #2 seed - true.

Horns not one man team - true.
DJ - set tempo, moved ball, 8-10 free throws - true, true, true.

Kansas lost b/c - horns sum of it's parts, played with passion, purpose, defense - true, true, ....

Team picture won't scare anyone - true
UT season improbable w/out Durant - true
Beasley best player - true

Rush failed to post AJ - true
James DD in second half - true
Athley first half 3s - true

... A little sappy at the end, but all in all a good article.

UCLA has 3 losses, pmg, not 4. Is that what you were referring to?

Bohls said we would lose to Baylor this Saturday in a column last week. I'll be interested to see if he addresses that if we win.

If UT loses to Baylor, I'm sure that Bohls will hand in his resignation along with an apology to the Longhorn Nation.

I don't remember the article, but if that was Bohl's prediction, it wasn't far-fetched. Barnes himself said we wouldn't win another conference game if we didn't start playing better.

I'm sure as hell not counting the Baylor game as a victory. They almost beat us in our own house. I know Barnes is 21-0 against them, but I figure that might work against us. They've got to be fed up with that **** and sooner or later that's got to end. Baylor always gives us hell there. They almost beat us here.

I'm hoping that we win, but won't be surprised if we don't. If you could only give me one win in the next two games. I'd prefer to lose a hard fought game in Waco and beat the Aggies on Big Monday.
