Bob Knight on ESPN

not sure how the rest of you feel about him. winner? definitely. a living, breathing double-standard? i think so. enigma? no doubt.

but, he is a breath of fresh air on ESPN as NONE of his answers are canned or for entertainment or ratings. interesting to see him at the table. don't get me wrong, i'm not a big ESPN hater, but it isn't bad to hear something different than bilas speak. you can tell he's throwing off rece davis' flow.

that's all. just bored waiting on the games to begin.

I think the guy is great. I love seeing him talk whether it's at a press conference or now on ESPN. But what's with the shirt today (below his sweater)? Does he have a freakin' disco party after the games today? Nonetheless, Bob Knight rocks and I hope he's on ESPN long-term.

Not bad at all. Once he gets the hang of things, he'll be a lot more assertive and upbeat. He's very methodical right now, but if he keeps up the gig, he'll become a beast!

Dick Vitale said that between Bob Knight and himself they have over 1,000 wins as basketball coaches.

I loved when they asked him on Gameday who he thought would win between Illinois and Minnesota. His response was "I don't care". And then he picked Duke after everyone else went through there 3 minute anaylsis by simply saying "I like their coach"

I'm glad ESPN didn't force him to wear a suit either. That would just look weird. Then again, maybe they did, but Knight went ape **** crazy on them.

Remember that youtube vid of Chris Berman going berserk off the air? I can easily see Knight doing the same.

Hate the guy if you want but the guy is pure genius. And i tend to agree with his answers more than any of the other commentators. And i'm gonna agree with the guy that said ESPN does generally suck, but what keeps everybody watching is the fact that they basically have a monopoly over any other potential sports channel. I used to be a very avid CNNSI watcher when that was a channel on time warner cable about 8 years ago.

who wants to be the producer of gameday who has to "coach" Knight on how to do what they do? do you think he listens or is a smart alec or ? that would be hilarious to watch that interaction.

He was talking today about how the difference between a #1 seed and a 2/3 seed is negligible.

I'm sure the producer's sphincter got nice and puckered at this statement. As they are hyping the crap out of "who gets the #1 seed". Kind of takes the piss out of the discussion of who gets the #1 seed if it doesn't really matter.

you know what I would do if I was the producer that had to tell Bob Knight what to do? Find someone else to do it.

haha I agree, when college gameday played take your pick for Illinois and Minn, Bob Knight said " I really dont care" everyone looked at him like he should pick someone but noone would say anything haha

I don't know anymore if Knight comes off as being a dude who "goes off" about anything that might get at him. He seems in control most of the time, and I get the feeling that he picks and chooses the moments when he does something fantastical and outrageous. I.e. - it's strategic, like when he gets the feeling the media or the officiating is against him. Barkley and Stoops are the same, imo.

Bob Knight has carefully managed a reputation for doing the outrageous. He can be a jerk at times, but that man has forgotten more about basketball than most of us will ever know. He clearly knos more than the "talking heads" he is working with now.

I love Coach Knight being on the air. He says what he thinks and doesn't really care if anyone agrees or disagrees. He is way better than that j-hole Jimmy Dykes.

I think Coach Knight is a brilliant man with some flaws. If Coach Barnes thinks the world of him, than I do too.

I started laughing when Vitale said he should go back to indiana and Knight had this pissed off, Shut the **** up look on his face toward Vitale.

He certainly has made the show more entertaining.

How about when Digger asked him about playing close to home and Knight said it didn't matter. Then, when pressed about playing in close in Indianapolis, Knight said, "There's things I don't like about Indianapolis." There was nervous laughter around the table.

Then, Digger pressed him again about the negatives of long travel in the tournament. Knight said "you Catholics need to get a better travel agent, maybe get a Methodist travel agent". That was hilarious, while the producer is just holding his breath.

Very enjoyable.

I've never been that big of a Knight fan. I always thought he did the right things in sometimes questionable ways.

However, I LOVED him on yesterday's show. He made Digger look like a moron and basically said everything I was thinking...except for "shut the **** up, Vitale, I wouldn't let you w/in 100 yards of my team"...or something like that.

It's nice to see someone up there who isn't carrying the ESPN ******** banner.

Bobby is talking on air the exact same way he would while fishing with buddies, minus a few profanities. I was laughing out loud when he made his comment about not liking some things in Indianapolis and grinned when he made his Catholic and Methodist travel agent remark. He is definitely not politically correct and he doesn't give a damn.

It occurred to me that with a little polish, he might make an excellent color analyst; almost like a John Madden for college basketball. You know he is full of good stories.

Vitale shamelessly sucking up to Knight is painful to watch. I had to turn it off when he went off on the rant about how Knight needs to be back at Indiana and what a raw deal he got and blah blah blah. I loved the look on Knight's face - I think he was ready to strangle him.

I hope he pulled V aside and said "Look, I know your schtick is to pimp coaches for new jobs at other locations, but if you do it again I'm going to throw a chair at you."
