Bob Dylan has sold out

What exactly do you mean by selling out? My guess is that most people sell out when they go to work every day. It's called making a living and it may sometimes conflict with our ideals of intellectual and artistic integrity.

In Dylan's case, do you mean that his behavior is now incompatible with his creative work of 40 years ago, and that he has a responsibility to remain publicly consistent with those views? I can understand that line of thinking, but I think we sometimes hold our cultural idols to unreasonable standards.

Maybe he just needs some dough.

The idea that the raspy troubadour of ’60s freedom anthems would go to a dictatorship and not sing those anthems is a whole new kind of sellout — even worse than Beyoncé, Mariah and Usher collecting millions to croon to Qaddafi’s family, or Elton John raking in a fortune to serenade gay-bashers at Rush Limbaugh’s fourth wedding.

What's the big deal, he is playing his music. it is not worse than those other examples she mentions. selling out is selling your song as a jingle to sell detergent. he isnt doing that. she's just pissed that dylan saw the hippie movement and her for what they were, a bunch of idiots.

It sounds like a theme of the guys career, is he is a musician and songwriter, yet people have constantly tried to coopt his music for thier agenda. Nothing in the world wrong with eating Cheerios, watching Sinatra and living in suburbia... He is free to live it as he wishes.

He also liked Bobby Vee and Ricky Nelson.

He was a superb, innovative musician at one point who wrote a lot of poetry for his songs which a lot of us poured our own thoughts into. Now he is just another good old musician who wants to perform all over the world and has to make some concessions to do so.

So what.
