"
President Barack Obama asked Congress on Monday for $263 million for the federal response to the civil rights upheaval in Ferguson, Missouri, and is setting up a task force to study how to improve modern-day policing.

The $263 million would pay for body cameras for police officers to use and expand training for law enforcement in an attempt to build trust in communities such as Ferguson, where a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer in the shooting death last summer of an unarmed black teenager."

I don't see any money being allocated to teach thugs not to attack police officers or not to loot and destroy their own community.

Well here's one area where the new Republican Congress can squeeze Obama's balls. $293 million? That's absurd. I wouldn't give him a nickel. Maybe some money to rebuild what the thugs burned down, but that's it!

Personally, I think the body cameras are a good idea. Let's put a stop to all this "he said, she said" crap in these police cases and bring some objectivity to them.

Absolutely agree , body cams. However I don't trust the feds to administer this.
It seems so simple but those are the types of programs the feds can mess up pretty good.

I too think body cameras are a good idea in theory, but $263 million? BO must be gonna strap a body camera to every cop in America!

I like the body cameras idea too. While you can bet there would be a surge in meritless police abuse/misconduct lawsuits, the positives would greatly outweigh the negatives.

Some police dept already have them and even though there will be the bad cops whose cams will "malfunction" the good will out weigh those few Plus it will also identify to gthe dept which cops have trouble following the laws.

One thing missing from BO's grand plan is ; where is the program to educate blacks to not commit crimes and to not charge at a police officer who is asking questions.
Wouldn't it make sense to educate people, not only to NOT break the law but also how to interact with a officer? Including knowing what your rights are,

Why so quick with the insults?
I posted the reuters article where several areas were mentioned as part of BO's plan.
It is fair to ask why there is no mention of educating the black kids/

Of course you are correct, Feds don't have a monopoly.
Heck there is fraud and waste anytime the money one spends or allocates isn't one's own even in the private sector.
But this thread is about fed money which is why I guess HHD commented on fed fraud and waste.
