BO:" America most respected country"

Once again saying, even by BO, does not make it so. Or does it?
Bush certainly pi**ed some nations off.
yesterday BO said.
"“People don’t remember, when I came into office, the United States in world opinion ranked below China, barely above Russia,” Obama said. “And today, once again, the United States is the most respected country on earth, and part of that I think is because of the work that we did to reengage the world and say that we want to work with you as partners, with mutual interests and mutual respect.”

Really? Too bad he didn't explain better on what basis he made that statement. Are there people and or posters who will nod their head and say." that's right?"
is there a reputable study that gives any credibility to that claim?

let me qualify that what he said in justification:
"Part of that I think is because of the work we did to reengage the world and say we want to work with you as partners with mutual interests and mutual respect. It was on that basis we were able to end two wars while still focusing on the very real threat of terrorism and try to work with our partners in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s the reason why we are moving in the direction to normalize relations with Cuba and the nuclear deal that we are trying to negotiate with Iran.” is such bull hockey.
ended wars? has he seen the news about what is going in in Iraq? Did he miss his DOD saying Iraq was not willing to fight?
How many of our troops are still n Afghanistan? How many will remain? I guess it depends on what the definition of is is.:rolleyes1:
Normalizing relation with Cuba? with h other countries did this raise their opinion?
Nuke deal with Iran? really? Iran has made so much fun of BO and has refused the key part of the deal who thinks BO has a goal there

OH, maybe it is the coalition of 60 nations fighting ISIS> Who are they and what are they doing in the fight?

He makes himself look silly. He should have just said nothing.

I'm curious to know what the response would have been if a Republican administration / Justice Department went after FIFA / other countries.

I agree he shouldn't have said this. I doubt that America is the most respected nation on Earth. I would guess Switzerland, Finland, Canada – and other nations who don’t attempt to lead would get higher rankings.

I also think 2 other things:

1. If Obama says America is the most respected nation on Earth, you (any many others) would have a major problem and be outraged with that statement.
2. If Obama says America is NOT the most respected nation on Earth, you (any many others) would have a major problem and be outraged with that statement.

Case in point I did a Google search on the phrase to try to find out where it came from. Scrolled through page after page of messages from the Angry Right and never found an original source article.

Croc
In any of those angry right sources was there a vid of him ?
are you saying BO did not say that?
Or are you saying you are not surprised his fawning media did not cover such a insipid and to most informed people an inaccurate declaration.

Do either of you think American IS now the most respected nation on earth, unlike when he took over?
How about an opinion on the topic?

Yes, 6721 there was video of him saying that. I assume President Obama had some source for his information and I was hoping to get an unbiased accounting. Just my opinion, but I think Brietbart and Fox communicate in a way to inspire anger in their audiences. I was looking for a source packaging information to excite my cerebal cortex, not my adrenal gland.

6721, as far as the level of respect for the US abroad, I have no expertise or opinion. I'm honestly curious about the change in perception of and respect for the US. I have no patience for a little information packaged with reams of energetic opinion.

?" I assume President Obama had some source for his information and I was hoping to get an unbiased accounting"
So you think BO made that stupid statement based on a " source" ? :rolleyes1:
I am with you, I would like to know BO's source for that statement.
If one exists do you not think someone including the White House would have cited it by now?

What is biased about quoting BO exactly or showing BO in vid saying that? You don't have to read beyond BO's quote . Ignore all else and just think about what BO said.
If you have paid attention to what other countries have said about us or how other countries have acted toward us you should have an idea of how we are seen. Heck not long ago there was a poll done of Americans and the majority felt BO was NOT respected by world leaders.
When you say, " I have no patience for a little information packaged with reams of energetic opinion." Of course you are referencing BO's energetic statement with no information to back it up.

We are having a discussion about our opinions on one man's opinion about what other people's opinions are of us. Pretty sure this is a recipe for a debate down party lines.

But isn't that the fun of WM?
and it isn't just one common man's opinion. It is the POTUS and it isn't exactly spoken like an opinion.
I would be disappointed if those of a different party agreed with BO on this.
There is no doubt Bush wasn't well liked by some of the world and h certainly didn't try to pretend he was.
Why is BO?

There is no such thing as "most respected," as these things always shift, and depend on the specifics inquired about, and varies largely from region to region, country to country. For example, in Russia, approval of the US is very low, in Germany, it may be very high. But you asked if there is a "reputable study that gives any credibility to that quote." Here's one, though it is from 2014. http://www.gallup.com/poll/182795/russia-receives-lowest-approval-world-highest.aspx?utm_source=leadership U.S.&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=tiles
