bluray player, cable modem, netflix

Holy crap what a combination! See ya blockbuster. Seriously I just got a LG blueray player from amazon and signeed up for the netflix trial to use their instant watch movies. This is going to be great.

It is taking less than a minute to have a movie on my screen. What a technology.

I also bought a BD 370. They are great! I was on Youtube in 10 minutes. I bought the 370 since I didn't want to pay the extra $100 for wireless and then not have the speed of a ethernet cable.

i have a PS3 and netflix and have been using for months. the selection of the movies available is still somewhat lacking, but it certainly kicks ***.

there are a ton of documentaries. and some good tv series (just caught up on friday nite lights season 2 and 3).

but hopfeully, the REAL movies will happen soon. i've seriously almost watched everyrhing that i want to watch on the streaming feed. i guess i watch too much tv. better it is certainly nice to get my regular netflix service, and on top of that have a "super on demand movie channel." i highly suggest getting a netflix compatilble player if you don't already have one.

and i love my PS3. i don't even play games. it has a 250 gig hard drive so i have all my digiital music (you can plug in a usb or optical cable to transfer), and all my digitally ripped DVD's. i've uploaded all my photos to there as welll. you can create albums from your photo center and then choose whatever music you want to play with them.

so, you can create your own family/sports/etc photo allbums displayed on your tv to your favorite music. that, along with blue ray and i have a COMPLETE media storage device/player.

better than any stereo, dvd player, or anything else that i know of.

anyway, what a great freaking tool.

Agree, I love the on-demand stream, but so far the selection is still rather limited. You're unlikely to find any new releases, at least the major ones. But, they're adding movies every day, so I'm hopeful they'll resolve this issue quickly. It's still a great service, for zero additional dollars.

I too hope teh instant on selections improve. One bonus for me, with two kids under 3 are the instant on kids selections providing some variety.

Notreally, the PS3 doesn't come with Netflix capability, does it?

What do you have to do to watch Netflix on PS3?

Also, any of you experience crappy resolution while streaming your Netflix movies from a cable modem? I'm switching to UVERSE with Internet Max at the end of the month. Maybe that'll help.

The price for the player I got in the original post has gone up 70$. I was going to get a second one. I think the 2010 models are now out but I don't want wifi.

My Samsung Blu-Ray normally retails for about $180, and recently I've seen it on sale for as low as $160. But somehow, right before Christmas, I managed to get it on sale for $125. Haven't seen it anywhere near that low since then.

I haven't seen any problems with bandwidth limitations while streaming. I have Time Warner Roadrunner service here in Austin, just the most basic one, not anything extra. The player caches a certain amount of the signal to help smooth out the distribution.

someone answered the netlflix for ps3 question already, but there are a couple of things worth mentioning.

since i don't really play games, i just discovered the ps3 store... where you can download new releases in HD. pretty awesome. you can watch if for like $6 or you can own it for $20.

as far as the netflix resolution... it is lot better on certain movies than others. some of the resolution is flat out horrible..... that is why i like it for documentaries more it seems. they'll need to keep improving their compression methods, or we are all going to need a lot faster internet before we can stream in HD.
