Blueprint to defeat Texas?

From this mornings Statesman:

"Opponents have developed a blueprint for defending the Longhorns.

One player chases Abrams everywhere, while another often drops into passing lanes trying to deny him the ball. Sometimes the other three defenders congregate near the basket, daring Abrams' teammates to shoot from outside."

Is this now true? Can Barnes not come up with anything? I guess our entire season is now dependent upon making mid-range jump shots, free throws and Pitman's fouls...

I just think it's kind of sad that the key to defeating Texas can be so easily noted....

Yeah, I think it comes down to shooting. If the other perimeter players can't knock down a shot, Abrams and the bigs will have more and more trouble scoring. Opposing defenses just have to clog the middle and play chase man on Abrams.

It's pretty hard to ignore the fact that a team's guards can't shoot.

I would say it's true. I was at the game yesterday and was able to watch the entire floor. It was pretty obious that Iowa State was daring the guards to shoot. There were many times that they sagged off the guards to pack the paint.

can harrison smith shoot? i've been under the impression that he hasn't played much because he isn't the defender that mason is. defense isn't our problem.

our offense consists of aj running around in figure 8's while mason/ward/balbay screw around with poorly executed high screens. they can't feed the post and they can't shoot (not being able to shoot certainly complicates your ability to feed the post). luckily, our bigs can board pretty well, so they get plenty of chances off our our backcourt's frequent bricks. part of it is our shooting, but part of it is scheme. i love me some barnes, but you shouldn't need to have a lottery pick playing the point to have an offense that doesn't suck.

again, the D is awesome, but we'll see an early exit in march unless we can improve our offense, i'm afraid.

We have two PGs that cannot hit the broad side of the barn and a 3 who is used to playing the 4 and cannot shoot from the outside either. Barnes has set this team up for this defensive look.
