His play was perhaps the most exciting thing for me. Beasley, too. Just need two more guys into the exciting me mode.

Gideon had a solid game. I thought Curtis Brown looked good as well. Hopefully Beasley can heal up and find a way to get on the field more b/c I think he's our best player in the secondary.

Gideon looked fine. I was worried about him getting a stupid flag after that one play when he wouldn't get out of the FAU player's face.

Palmer is who I am worried about now. He never turned around to see a single ball thrown his way. That is going to get him in trouble and make him a big target for pass intereference calls.

Gideon look really good I thought. He was all over the field and played with the fire I wish every defensive player had. We all saw the pretty nice hit he had, but others may not have noticed him flying to the ball on almost every play. He looked like a man inspired and I for one loved the hell out of it.

I think the Palmer play that he was referring to was on the opening drive...I think. The ball was floated up there and nowhere near the receiver. If Ryan turned around he would have had an easy interception. It wasn't just me, but multiple people around me yelling for him to turn around. Whether its lack of confidence or experience...he and the others can only get better.

I never said face guarding was illegal. But if there is a close pass interference call, the fact that the DB never looked for the ball is going to draw the flag most every time.

Palmer did it on the first drive and a few other times. There were several times he just didn't even try to look for the ball and if he had, he could've made a better play. Didn't hurt us too much on Saturday, but it is not the type of thing that should go overlooked by the coaching staff. He needs to be better than that.

The best play Palmer made all night was getting called for a PI instead of letting the FAU player score an easy TD when Palmer knew he was beat. I cannot tell you how pissed I get when a guy knows he is beat for an easy TD and he just lets the guy go. 15 yards is a lot better than 40 and a TD. That was a heads up play in my opinion.

skiddish at first, then better in the 2nd half. He did a little too much celebrating when the QB made mistakes IMO (like acting as though it was his great D that made the QB through it too high, etc...)

I thought Thomas looked pretty good after the 1st Q, he was a bit too jacked up to start the game and it showed as he went for the knockout blow on a couple of tackles instead of just wrapping up.

I thought Chykie Brown looked good as well, I think the secondary will surprise people and will be able to make a lot of plays that couldn't be made last year simply on athleticism.

Blake's got "good game speed." He closes and finishes really well.

I like the defensive adjustments that were made at the half. They shut FAU DOWN!

My sister-in-law, a Texas-Ex and huge UT football fan, was telling me last fall when she saw Gideon/Leander play he was all over the field making play after play. She was perplexed as to why he wasn't ranked higher in the recruiting rankings. I know he's only one game into his college football career, but I bet the guy continues to improve every game.

gideon and irby were two pleasant surprises. there is no doubt that gideon has the intangibles to become a great one. he seems to understand the game and be in the right position often. that is great to see from such a young kid.

Gideon really impressed me more than just about anyone, I thought he looked excellent out there. And I'm not worried at all about Palmer - while not the most athletic, I thought he was our most consistent guy in the secondary last year (unless you want to count those who were consistently bad).

Any word on why Beasley didn't start? I thought he'd nailed down a starting spot.

Gideon was one of the more controversial signings last year. Nice to see him proving his doubters wrong.

Blake made plays just like he did at Leander.

Its nice to see that the transfer from HS to College wasnt too difficult for him.

A couple of my friends and I know him from HS, so we called him before the game on Saturday and told him good luck and what not. We asked him to get an INT for us.. but he said hes gonna make us wait until OU.

you all must have watched a different game than the one i saw. The secondary looked terrible, and if FAU hadn't inexplicably abandoned the pass in the second half, they could have had close to 500 yds passing and made it a close game.

^^i actually agree with this statement. I thought Gideon played well, although it may seem like i have a biased opinion, i expected this. Not from day one necessarily but i thought early in his career he would be able to get an opportunity to be the starting safety. When you consider the fact that hes a coaches son, played for a very successful high school team (especially the 3 years he was there) and was the starting safety for all 3 years, it makes sense that he has the football smarts. But he is extremely underrated as an athlete, and i think people will understand what i mean as the season goes on.
