Blackberry or not?

Thinking about getting a Blackberry. Anybody got any comments good or bad? What model to get? I've got Verizon. How is the functionability as phone? Do you get used to the bulkiness over a cell phone?

Can't live without mine from an email and web capability. It's the 'blueberry" unit. Also use mine as a phone, and I'll say it's adequate at best in that function. Still better than carrying around two separate units.
It's wider, but thinner than a regular cell. Doesn't bother me in that regard.

If you're willing to switch to T-Mobile (I haven't heard great things about their service), you can get the new Blackberry/phone combo. It's very sweet.

Otherwise, Verizon has the Palm Treo 650 (brand new upgrade from the 600). I'm about to go this route once Cingular gets them in Feb.

Only get one if you feel you are ready because you will never get rid of it once you have it.

I'm with Verizon and don't have a choice. Do all of them have the capabiltiy to recieve email, even if my computer is not on at the office?

I don't think your computer has to be on -- they connect to the email server on your office network which is presumably always up. The Blackberry "pushes" mail to you when it arrives. The Treo can be set to look for and "pull" your mail often enough to create the same effect.

Computer doesn't have to be on. It does pull from your mail server. Your computer will simply sync up when turned back on.

Verizon does offer the Treo 650 right now.

I just got the TREO 650 with Sprint. I previously had the Blackberry 7100T from Tmobile. I like the TREO and the service quite a bit better than the Blackberry. I'm not sure if its because i'm a previous PALM OS user, or whatnot, but to me, it just seems like a much better product.

good luck.

So, the TREO will get me email often enough if it is set to go get it, but the blackberry emails pop up automatically? It seems like the phone features are easier to use on the TREO.

Texas Horn,
What service you got that through. I'm stuck with Verizon, and they say they're not getting the 650. WTF? Why the hell would I get the 600 when there is a new product out. I think somebody is full of ****.

If you are willing to switch to T-mobile, why wouldn't you just get the Sidekick II?!? I've used my friend's many times and I've seen another friend's Blackberry before - not really even close....... is it?

The physical-ness of it is WAY cooler.

How are they different functionally?

I was issued a "blue unit" blackberry about 3 months ago. It works fine, but I hate it. Now I get in a bad mood at home instead of after I get to the office.

Also, just ran into a dude at lunch who used to have a Blackberry but 'upgraded' (his words) to the Sidekick II.

He said there are some (maybe 2) features that are better on the BB, but the BIGGEST difference for him was how fast all of the applications loaded (and it had a MUCH better camera (good enough to where you actually use
this one))

I'm sold - now, if I could just find that deal where you get everything and MAKE $30!

Gonna need it when I cancel my ******* ATT service for $175 or whatever it is!

Sidekicks are toys for kids, Paris and Snoop. Not functional for business.

I'm with Cingular, but wish to amend my previous post. This Treo 650 isnt' ready for distribution. Wait a few months. I'm swapping it out for a Blackberry 7100 immediately.

I chickened out. I drove to Verizon near the Galleria dead set on getting the Treo. Had a little sales chick names Kari that was cute as hell with big tits trying to convince me that this was the unit for me. And I talked myself out of it. Just pisses me off that there is a new product out there in the 650 and Verizon is not going to carry it. I can't see the need for the Blackberry. I know some folks love them, but I need the phone features more than the instant email. Seems the Treo is a better phone. Guess I'll wait. Might go back just to see Kari though.!

I've been on a bunch of Brighthand.com and Palmone.com bulletin board sites. Big problems with the 650 with random shutdowns/restarts, echoing while on active calls, massive hotsycning issues....be careful.. This thing isn't ready for distribution yet.

Well, I finally got my Sidekick II, and LOVE it (coming to you live from it). For all of you that say it's only a toy and you need one of the others for business...

Well, you may be right, but my phone AIN'T for business, so it is Puuuurrrrfect!

And the other ones look like a damn licence plate when holding it up to your ear.

Basically, I just look at it as a serious upgrade to my old phone:
- better ******* CS, already then ATT/Cingular
- speaker phone is an awesome addition
- full internet (none of that Mmode ********)
- Address book slots, detail and presentation is awesome
- camera (with flash) that you will actually use

- Full qwerty keyboard in a device that looks like a normal phone (only slightly bigger than the one I had just a year ago) 'cause of the nifty flip-up screen
- more I haven't even discovered, yet.

Improvement that could be made (and are rumored to do just that) on the next generation:
- Ability to detach wavs/jpg/stuff from emails
- Bluetooth
- MP3 player (video, as well)
- Javascript

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the purchase.

this is a religous deabate

I have the BB 7100t, for about a month and a half now. ******* love it, use it for work and use it for phone, I will get another phone so I have a tiny gadget phone on the weekends and times when all I need it a phone and sms. my engineer has a Treo and my BB kicks its *** in every way except camera.

For work, I have the Samsung i700 pocket PC through Verizon. It's great - email and can view email attachments, full web surfing, pocket PC versions of Word and Excel, a notepad, speakerphone and a pretty good camera. It doesn't have a built in finger keyboard like a crackberry, but it doesn't take long to get used to using the stylus to type messages on the digital QWERTY keyboard. I love it - it syncs my calendar, contacts and email wirelessly, while being a functional cellphone and replacing my Palm Pilot.
