I've tried to start using bittorrent. I was told it was the end all, be all of file sharing services. It sucks, so I must be doing something wrong. I can't download anything. Is this normal? All I ever get is a timeout error. Help please.

i heard the same thing and have had similar results. i've downloaded a couple of things, but it's harder to use and not that much faster than limewire, winmx, and the rest.

BT isnt that safe either. i know couple of friends who have downloaded movies from BT and have gotten notices from the MPAA. they've had to write an apology letter and then buy a retail copy of the dvd as punishment

if any of you live on campus/use wireless on campus, you can access the on campus dc++ hub. we currently have 7+TBs of data shared.
of course, it is for sharing stuff like linux distros and non-copyrighted music, documentaries etc...

I have it. tried using it, to no avail. someone please explain to us techinical idiots how to properly use it.

well, up and running. After immersing myself in all things bittorrent, I'm operational. Two links I found helpful.
The LinkThe Link

I'm impresed. Download speeds seem to be faster than other p2p programs i've used, much faster. Due to their seeding/leeching protocol, the downloads seem to pick up speed as they get closer to finishing. I have a cable modem, and I downloaded a couple of 170 MB files in about 15 minutes each.

just follow the FAQs and you should do alright, in an excellent comunity you sometimes get awesome bandwith. At empornium I get 100 kb/s dowloads easy.

Everybody learn how to use it cool things are planned for this season.

I've only used it for downloading linux distros and TV shows. The only unfortunate thing is that it is hard to search for reliable bittorrent hash files.
