Billy Packer...

thank God I'll be watching Husker baseball Saturday.

cannot STAND Billy Packer.
 
Maybe he and Mike Huckabee can tell the dorks how neither one of them will be President and Fox News will cover it.
 
I don't know if many of you have heard Packer when interviewed on the radio, but he comes across as very aloof, if not disinterested.

I don't mind listening to him do the color, but he is far from my favorite.

Very aware of how much he knows, or at least how much he thinks he knows, and surely that he knows more than you.

It's interesting to me that Dick Vitale has been on the Basketball HOF ballot for what, three years in a row, or three out of four? I think that's a joke, and I think that with Dickie V, what you see is what you get... a big fan and supporter of college hoops.

And, IIRC, Packer has been doing basketball commentary for almost 40 years, longer, and IMO, better than Dickie V. Yet you haven't seen or heard of Packer being put up for the HOF. I don't think you can draw any other conclusion than that Vitale is much more popular with the nominating committee than Packer.
 
Rather than putting it nicely, I will just be blunt: Billy Packer is the worst color commentator in any sport and a huge assclown in general.
 
^ you need to watch more college football local/regional telecasts before you call Packer the worst commentator in any sport.

also, next time there is a football broadcast, mute the sound and do your own commentating for 4 hours. It's not as easy as you think.
Just try it for fun and have your sidekick do the color. Just do it.
 
if announcers bother you that much, mute it for the entire game. Why don't people do this?

if you are paying that much attention to the announcers, then you are missing the point of watching the sporting event. Its about the game, not the ads, not the announcers, not the halftime or pregame show.

I just tune out whatever is being said and even when I care to pay attention, they do a decent job in explaining things.

If a fan thinks he can do better, given that you don't have to have a body by Zeus, why don't many of you try it?

As for Packer himself, I've been listening to him since the early 80s and enjoy the familiar voice of the Final 4 along with Jim Nantz.

When I was in school in the 80s, I used to come home and listen to the aging Harry Carey do the Cubs and even though his analytical skills were non existant, he was part of the show, but that wasn't the reason I watched Cubs games.
 
If message board posts where people express their opinions about announcers bother you so much, why don't you just ignore them? Because your lecture about how I am missing the point of watching sports and how I couldn't do a better job than Billy Packer anyway doesn't make me hate him any less.

Why don't just mute it and do your own commentary? Turn off the sound if it drives you into such a maddening psychological condition.
 
Packer just called KU player "Chaka Kahn" instead of Sasha.
