Packer probably gets a bunch of criticism for his analysis. But in this case, as soon as I heard him say this, I agreed and was very impressed with his guts, or job security, whatever you want to call it.
A few points.
1. Even though I agreed with him, did it make me want to stop watching the game? no, I kept watching just to see the carnage.
2. I can't even imagine how upset the CBS bigshots were. OR maybe not. Look at the audience. This is not a Monday night primetime audience when CBS knows there will be a lot of people watching who don't normally watch NCAA basketball.
3. Even though I wanted Kansas to win the game, it was somewhat satisfying watching the meltdown in the second half. I don't know why, it just felt good.
4. Was he right?? I say yes, because the mountain was just way too high to climb. Even when they came within four, I never really felt like they would actually take the lead.
5. Will we ever see this again? I don't think there's a chance of EVER hearing an announcer say a game is over in the first half, at least of a nationally televised game.
