Billy Packer Out ??

The only thing worse is that Clark Kellogg will now be in his place.

Anybody but Kellogg.

Bob, me too. Why Kellogg?? Perhaps it's because of Bilas's role with ESPN.

I am in the extreme minority here but I enjoyed Packer. He was egotistical and sometimes mind-boggling, bt I liked his insight. Then again, I really like Joe Morgan on ESPN and most people on Hornfans hate him, too. Kellogg is going to be too fluff for my taste.

I loved the excitement that Billy Packer had for the game. He was awesome. You people hate everything that's good in the world. I just read on Cactus that Tombstone was actually a terrible movie. Really?

I don't like Packer, but I don't dislike him as much as Vitale.

They're basically exact opposites -- Packer provides actual analysis of the game, but sounds like he hates what he sees, which is what really bugs me about him (and many sport journalists, too). Vitale provides virtually no real actual analysis but just screams and hollers and enjoys himself.

If we could genetically combine Vitale and Packer, we might have the greatest basketball color commentator possible. Or we'd have the absolute worst.

As much as I dislike Packer, nothing good comes out of this.
1. Kellogg is much worse.
2. Bet your horses that ESPN hires Packer.

I always thought Packer had very insightful in-game analysis, but his desire to draw attention to himself by being controversial outweighed whatever positives he brought to the table. It was almost like clockwork when the seedings came out that he would make some outlandish statement and try to become part of the story, instead of reporting or commenting on the story. It's one thing to be controversial, it's another thing to be controversial solely for the sake of being controversial. That's where Packer lost me.
