Billy Donovan sends a message

Think the university president will tell Donovan that he can't use his University of Florida offices, letterhead, or telephones (or paycheck) until he wins another SEC tournament game?

Edit: Of course, let's look at the Gators' lineup--it has one guy who played more than 10 minutes a game last year. The top 6 guys in minutes played are 3 freshmen, 2 sophmores and a junior. Hmm. Might this be a reason to understand how the team might finish the year with 4 straight losses? That, and the fact that the opponents were Mississippi State, Tennessee, Kentucky in Kentucky, and then an Alabama team that had 2 seniors and 2 juniors and 1 sophmore as the starting 5? Didn't have enough defensive fire? What, you recruited Lucas, Calathes and Parsons thinking they were going to put on 35 pounds of muscle apiece and become wrestlers?

Seems like a pretty good motivation. The only part that is ridiculous is not allowing them to wear orange, blue, or anything else associated with Florida.

So the message is?????

We have a lot of work to do to get better but I'm not going to allow any of you into the gym to practice?

Right.

I'd agree with him if it was after one or two games poorly played because his team wasn't concentrating or trying hard.

But since the team lost like 8 of their last 11, I'd suggest coaching as a problem.

In the short run players screw up, lose focus, do stupid things. It's the coaches' job to recognize problems and provide feedback quickly to correct the problems.

However, the buck stops at the top over the long run. I suggest Donovan look in the mirror at what he's wearing.

Do people really have a problem with this?

Its for motivation. Makes me wonder if some people played sports at any level - including junior high. Haven't we all had a coach do something like this after a bad loss?

On top of whether this gets people's approval, like Third Coast said, Donovan's got the skins on the wall to do whatever he wants.

It's not like he kicked them all of the team. They just aren't getting the sweet perks. They still practicing, but in an older gym. This downgrade is still probably better than the facilities at half the schools in the country.
