Mack has lost his edge. I really think that as as long as he stays we will be in the pack for the states top talent, and will have to work really hard to get them. We have fallen pretty far, and Mack does not seem to have the drive, or know how to right this ship. Complaceny is a hard hump to get over.
It just gets harder with age. At 53, I have no where near the energy I had at 38. It's not that you don't want to have the energy, it's just that it's not there. Also, for many people including Mack, you've already accomplished the top. The drive it took to get there is just hard to muster again. See Dirk for a comparison.
Being smarter and having more money hasn't helped us convince recruits to come here. Other coaches smell the blood and have come in for the kill. All in due time. It is no secret.
You know, maybe it's because I never watced him play. Is this Billings kiid so good that the entire future of UT football hinged on his decision whether to come here or not? I need to see the highlights. He must be some kinda Conan the Barbarian.
I wasn't referring only to Billings. A previous poster said they couldn't believe we were losing recruits to Baylor and TCU.
It's pretty clear that those schools have outperformed UT over the past 3 years? Which is basically the entire time these kids have been in high school.
I'm not suggesting that BU & TCU out-recruited us overall. Just that it's not surprising that they got a few guys we wanted.
Head to head, I think we only lost to Baylor once. I guess they did come a lot closer to meeting expectations than we did and TCU won more games, mostly against lesser competition.
