I've noticed a lot of this sort of thing happening this year. I think a fair amount of the boosters / alums setting up NIL stuff for their schools are realizing that disparity in deals could cause tension in the locker room and are setting this stuff up on purpose, like "Here we'll give you all this for NIL, plus we'll set you up with a hundred [pricey item] to hand out in your name to everyone on the team".

No, I'm saying I suspect they are using the "And we'll throw in something cool for you to gift all your teammates" as a way to help mitigate it.

Somewhat like how NFL starting QBs are told to always get some nice gifts for their OL before the season starts.
