Big XII

Vol Horn 4 Life

Good Bye To All The Rest!
Bringing it at 9-1 in the tourney so far!!

OSU 2-0
Texas 2-0
Kansas 1-1
Tech 2-0
TCU 2-0

Kansas is losing to Kentucky in the 9th, but it'd be sweet to get 4 of 5 teams to the super regional.

I'm really pulling for Houston to win.
I think that if they and Texas win, the "Super" regional would be in Austin. Of course, I would root for Houston anyway, until they play Texas of course.

I don't know what a cat-bird is. (sounds like maybe a Kansas thing) I think that 4 of the 5 Big 12 teams are waiting for their opponent.

I don't think that the TCU team that played last night sounded like the one that Texas played this year. Maybe they were trying to break the longest game record. If it were the Ags, I would probably suspect that more.

I don't remember what the record is, I just remember keeping up with it on game tracker.

That may be what I have to use tonight, if for some reason "they" decide to shut out the unwashed. Maybe Rice or A&M care enough about their fans that they would want the fans to see them play.

The game is still listed as on ESPN3, but I think it was last night up until just before the game.

The Link

The "catbird or cat-bird seat" is a phrase with Southern heritage and that is why I have heard it and sometimes use it.
That and the fact it was used by many baseball announcers I remember of the past.

Vin Scully used it probably because he was a protege of Red Barber with the Dodgers.

I heard it from as you old Astros fans will remember, Lowell Pass of "Now you are chunking in there," fame and getting out his lucky pencil to spur a rally.

It was a triple threat of Gene Elston, Harry Kalas, and Lowell Pass for the Astros in the old Dome era on the radio.

Gene Elston made the radio Hall of Fame and Harry Kalas went on to do Philadelphia Phillies games and is the voice of NFL Films now.

I remember Kalas would make a Houston home run call as
"That ball is an Astro orbit."

Okay, maybe the super regional would be in Houston, since Houston was rated above Texas in the polls (some of them anyway). That could be even better for me (in Aldine). Haven't gone to Reckling, for the regional yet. Guess I was lucky last night, as I could just go to sleep when the game was over.

Four of five Big XII teams advance with a record of 13-4. Not bad!

On to play Houston!

With Oregon State losing, all four Big XII teams might host too. At worst three host and Texas plays in Houston where the crowd will have a lot of Horns anyway.

So should we start chanting as one, "BIG XII, BIG XII, BIG XII?" Or do you think we would sound as myopic, provincial, and idiotic as SEC fans?

All four Big XII teams are hosting; only two SEC made it to the Supers, and only one (Vanderbilt - you know, the school everyone else in the SEC puts on the bottom feeder list) is hosting.

My mind's eye has a great visual working of the Ole Miss fans trying to hang the crystal light fixtures in their tailgating tents in Lafayette, LA, surrounded by a bunch of Cajuns.

Dear Aggy,

Congrats on a successful baseball season. Yours was a good team and tough to beat 2/3.

Personally, I don't care if someone chants his conference's name or roots for another school after his team has been eliminated. Do what you like.

Here's hoping Texas can survive another tough weekend against another solid in-state opponent and get back to Omaha.
