Here we go, good weekend in the conference:Standings ...
Texas 12-6
A&M 11-7
Baylor 10-7
Oklahoma 8-7
Kansas St 8-7
Kansas 8-7
Tech 9-9
OSU 5-9
Nebraska 4-14

Match-ups/Predictions ...

Kansas St @ #2 Texas (Texas sweep, I'm getting cocky)
#14 OU @ #15 Baylor (BU takes 2)
#25 OSU @ #18 A&M (A&M takes 2)
Nebraska @ Kansas (KU takes 2)
Tech @ Mizzou (Mizzou takes 2)

That would leave the conference looking like this:

Texas 15-6
A&M 13-8
Baylor 12-8
Kansas 10-8
Oklahoma 9-9
Mizzou 10-11
Tech 10-11
Kansas St 8-10
OSU 6-11
Nebraska 5-16

If we could take 6 of 9 in the rest of the conference games I would think that would position us pretty good. K State's Friday starter has been outstanding all year. Baylor and A&M also have some good pitching. We just need to hold them down with our own pitching.

Agreed. I would take 6 of 9 with 3 series wins, but if we have a shot at another sweep, this is it.

I hope Chance can out-duel the KSU ace, that guy has filthy numbers.

9-0, 1.31 ERA ... or something along those lines.

Dude, we must protect this house.

That is an amazing stat line for their Friday starter. Big 12 Pitcher of the Year maybe? Here's to hoping we give him a big fat L.

I am not sure swinging away at this guy who leads in Ks per innings nationally, is the way to go. Somehow get on base a few times and scratch together some 3 runs on him (hopefully get some errors from them too) -- and hope for our own pitching to shut them down. We must make sure that we get some 3 walks from him, minimum!

If we swing away, we may get a solo homer or something but end up with some 5 hits, 10 Ks and nothing else to show

Patience at the plate may just pay off. Make him throw A LOT of pitches early and get into their bullpen.

In the Big XII:
Texas batting average = .278
A.J Morris era = 1.83
KSU team ERA = 5.86 (and that's including Morris)

IMO,Texas pitching must get them to into the 7th or 8th not down by more than 1-2. Morris averages 7.8 innings/game in Big XII play.

I like the matchups in the 2nd and 3rd games, though.

Finally, the conference losing streak is OVAH! Huskers 11, KU 4 tonight!

congrats HNK... Huskers did something UT couldn't do this season - beat KU. Horns stumble out with a loss from Friday night vs. kansas aggy to bring their record to 12-7. They really need to take the next 2 from the mildcats if they want to maintain that lead in the conference and a little breathing room.

None of our calculations above worked.

We did remain patient at the plate, we did scratch together a run and we did get an error from them to add on a run. We did take the game into the 8th inning not trailing by more than two runs. We did make him throw a lot of pitches (85 in the first 5 innings!) ..

.. but we didn't expect the guy to go 139 pitches and throw a complete game giving up 1 ERA just under his own ERA of 1.3. Even with our pitching, expecting our pitchers to allow just one run to win a game was going to be unrealistic.

Sometimes a really good pitcher will shut down any calulations and win a match. Whatever we tried, this guy, the best in the country, was going to win. Hats off to AJ Morris.

This was one of the very few games (may be the only game?) where we would face a better starter than one of ours, on paper itself. It went as should have been expected. Now let us win the next two and stay out of trouble.

... and oh by the way, when I saw I guy named something like Addams Munster leading off for KSU, I had a funny feeling that some level of mild horror would follow
