Can anybody guess who the league office wants to win? You can bet it ain’t “da Bears”. They will want a higher profile program for “The Committee” to consider. Who is the better team is irrelevant. It is about promotion, just like all of this “selection” process. This committee of thirteen has seven active AD’s and one of them represents the B XII, or more specifically, is AD for OU. Recusals? O.K. I will leave the room while you discuss my team, but when I come back we will all gather for dinner and drinks, so be kind to me while I’m out. Right.? And my team needs their biggest rival out of the mix of the playoff teams. I will be working on that while we manipulate selection of the teams that provide the biggest payday.
Officiating could very well decide this game. Then again it could be a blowout. Will Bowlsby hand pick a crew to officiate? Isn’t that what he did last year? And like last year, it may be the non-calls that could play a bigger role than the bad calls on a given team. One of these teams has acknowledged that they expect their defensive backs to get flagged, yet that seldom happens. And they can write a book on how to hold at the offensive line and get away with it.
Awareness that there will be bad officiating will not matter. Complaints that it is happening during the game will go on deaf ears. And, complaints to the league office after the game will be a waste of time because they continue to support some of the worst officiating in college football. Here’s an idea. Go hire a crew from another conference for the championship game. Is he doing that this year?
Accuse me of being a conspiracy theorist. Yea, could be one. And if so, could be right. Having fought for many years in the business world I continue to be amazed at the naivety of so many people when it comes to money and power. No playoff + corrupt selection = $$$$$$$$$$. D-1 football is the only sport north of middle school athletics that will not allow a playoff. Need to control the semifinal and final game participants. Sooners will get in! Big XII office will celebrate.
