Penn State and Florida in State College.

I only know that the GameTracker will be going. If anybody knows a Penn State feed, let us know.

We will need to bring our A game this tournament.
I was not impressed with the W.Virginia game yesterday. But it's early.
Good Job H.Eckerman and B.Webster and McNeal when they got the ball to you.

If you are a subscriber to either CBS Sports.com All Access or the PSU All Access, you can watch by signing in after clicking on the watch icon on the current event on PSU schedule page. Looks like the Florida vs Texas game is also available as well as the PSU vs Texas game.

Here's the PSU All Access upcoming events page.

Good Job Ladies! Texas vs. Florida 3 - 0
Need to do a better job Blocking and Passing.

The game against Penn State could possibly be on the Big 10 Network. I haven't check the schedule yet, but I watched the Penn State-Stanford match yesterday on the Big 10 Network.

Go Horns! Beat Penn State!

Tx gets swept!

Tx needs to start spreading the offense around. The 6-2 just doesn't seem to be working. Passing is still an issue. Service errors out the wazoo! Something has got to change.

I am starting to see the same problems out of this team. That I have seen in the past. Which means Coaching!
I love J.E as a Recruiter. But I am really starting to question's, his coaching skills. We get tons of talent every year. And I don't really see the talent developing. Especially on the defense's end of the floor.

Yeah, it's rough having national championship expectations and losing

Our volleyball program lost to one of the best in the country. Sure, there were problems, but let's not get on the line and start calling potential candidates yet.

I am with Dino, everything is fine until Texas comes up against top competition. PSU does not have better athletes so there is something not right.

The knock on Texas in the college volleyball world is that Jerritt recruits tall, athletic, terminal hitters who can crush the ball but who also lack all-around skills like ball control and floor defense. These skills are just as important in keeping the ball in play and setting up the big guns.

But instead of developing and emphasizing ball control skills (or even recruiting players with better defensive skills/less offensive prowess), he would rather put up tall blockers in the front row in all rotations to slow down the ball in hopes that passing it back up to the setter is easier... thus his preference in running the 6-2 system.

Which is fine, if you're going up against teams with weaker hitters. But not against top competition like PSU, Stanford, UCLA, and FL (we swept them but it could have easily gone the other way) who have the big hitters who can terminate the ball just as effectively.

And this is where ball control/floor defense comes into play. He has to sub out his strongest attackers when they rotate to the back-row (like Eckerman and Webster who have the same attacking abilities like Destinee Hooker from the back). This substitution pattern takes out the backrow attack option and makes the offense more predictable. All the attacks end up coming from the left-side because that's the only place the setter can put the ball BECAUSE the passing/ball control is mediocre at best.

Eventually the left side hitters are going to tire out and not terminate the ball as efficiently (just like the 2011 regional final against UCLA).

He's attempting to run the 6-2 system that almost won the 2009 NC game, but IMO he's missing some important pieces in the system like steady passing/ball control from the Libero who can consistently put the ball up over the setter in front of the 10' line and consistent setting from both Hannah and Nicole (which again is predicated on good ball control).

Most teams are substituting out their big hitter in the backrow for a defensive player. The problem for Texas is giving a good pass to the setter on serve/receive and during the transition game so that she can have 3 options of attack in the front row at all times (one of the advantages of running a 6-2 system).

Unfortunatley, Jerritt's problem doesn't get any easier next year as he loses Sha'Dare to graduation (one of his 6 rotation ball control players) but doesn't replace her skill set. Next year's recruits coming in are a top-ranked MB and setter.

Be it what it is, the ladies fought hard against Penn State and that was a really tough crowd. I think if that match is in Gregory right after a football game, the outcome might be a little different.

We still spanked Florida and had moments of good play against PSU.

Looking forward to the Series with Minnesota this week!!!!

Major is right. Had that game been in Gregory or any other neutral site (WITH AIR CONDITIONING) there would have been a much different outcome. I was there and that place is absolutely miserable in terms of the heat.....it's not like it's just hot there is literally no air/breeze. It's like being in an oven. They don't even bring in fans to get any type of air stirring.

I saw Texas making several errors to give these sets to PSU and the good news is all of it is very fixable. We weren't outclassed, we were just outworked at the end of all three sets.

I have also been Wisconsin and Minnesota both did not have AC. Rec Hall was by far the worst. At Wisconsin and Minnesota there was air circulating, not cool/cold air but it was moving.

Hey, Tempest and UTHF, I was there too!

A few things to consider:
- Nobody expected Texas to sweep Florida, so even though the games were close, our 'Horns did better than expected in that match.

- Watching PSU rip Stanford a new one in Game #1 Friday, I thought Texas might not score more than 16 or so in any of the three games against PSU.

- Coach Elliott voted PSU #1 in the country even before playing them. He noted in his press conference Monday, they are 93-2 at home since 2007. It was disappointing we didn't at least win a game, but...

- We probably would have won Game #1 if one of our two big guns had been able to calm down and find the court with her attacks. I don't know whether the coaches did anything to help her relax, but it was obvious she needed something. Nobody knows how different the match would have gone if we did win Game #1.

- Despite all the criticism on volleytalk and some concerns even here that he is "just" a great recruiter, JE is the only coach with an active six year streak of reaching at least the regional final. (That's especially remarkable considering the injury issues Texas has had during many of those years.) I looked at PSU's history and don't see where even RR has ever pulled that off (he did manage a five year streak). So JE must be doing quite a few things well.

- The 6-2 is not necessarily what Texas will use all year. It's possible that a primary reason we are using it now is to get Nicole experience setting at this level / to her fellow 'Horns. Where would this squad be if Hannah became unavailable at some point and Nicole had no experience setting? I don't know whether that's a factor in JE's mind or not, but given his record of success I'm inclined to figure he has a pretty good plan for the season, and the ability to juggle it as needed.
