Big Sis explains it well.

She is asked why more attention isn't paid to muslim men under 35. Watch and listen to her explanation and see if you agree. What is the difference between a Muslim and Islamist? She seems to think the Islamist is more dangerousThe Link

Interesting stat that seems related : according to Eric Holder 126 people were arrested for terrorist charges in last 2 years ( 50 were American citizens, all were Muslim)The Link

She's saying it's not enough that someone is Muslim to consider them a suspect. She uses the term Islamist to describe someone who has elevated themselves, through their own actions, from a Muslim to an extremist. Perhaps Islamist is the wrong term, but it's pretty simple to understand what she is saying....unless of course you're just looking for a soundbite to denigrate her with.

What did the reporter ask? Are you saying every single person who gets attention or a serious look by HSA is a Suspect?

I don't think so but with people like you explaining what she meant to say Big Sis never has to worry

Islamist is a horrible term. Its a slang word that basically means Muslim. Muslims follow Islam, so an "Islamist" is a Muslim. Bad bad terminology.

6721 - He asked why more attention wasn't focused on Muslim men under 35. He said that common sense would lead us to believe that Muslim men under 35 should at least garner more attention, since most of those arrested on terrorist charges have fit that description.

Napolitano says, in her second sentence, that we should "use actual intelligence". She further stated that the questioner merely gave her a description of "status" (her word, meaning a generic description like muslim, male, under 35) rather than any actual information that the fictional person in question had moved beyond simply being a Muslim to being a violent extremist. She wants to focus attention on people who meet that elevated level rather than simply being a 30yo Muslim man.

If you disagree you are saying that we should focus more attention on all Muslim men under the age of 35. That is a logical extension of the questioner's position.

Now, that is not to say that the questioner, and you if you agree, would not also agree to focus even more attention on those Muslim men under 35 who also exhibited "warning signs" like Napolitano was talking about. The difference is that Napolitano doesn't think "Muslim male under 35" alone is enough to garner additional scrutiny, and I tend to agree.

Her use of the word Islamist may be off-color and inappropriate, I really don't know. But she pretty clearly explains what she is talking about when she uses the phrase "violent extremist" at the 1:40 mark.

Do you believe that every Muslim man under 35 should garner additional attention by security? Or should they be free unless they exhibit some warning signs, just as the rest of us are?

You won't find me defending the TSA.

Do you think simply being a Muslim male under 35 should mean increased security scrutiny?

you ask a good question
"Do you believe that every Muslim man under 35 should garner additional attention by security"

I think they, as a group, should certainly garner additional attention compared to 3 y o and 6 y o children ,compared to 72 y o grannies and 80 y o nuns. Yes I do

The numbers certainly support it, How many of the people arrested as terrorist suspects have been children, grandothers or nuns?

maybe we should ask our newest arab spring "democracy" why they require addtional attention by security for men under 40.The Link
"The new rules said men over 40, children and all women could travel from Gaza through Egypt without prior arrangement. "

Should young black men who wear head wraps and saggy pants be scrutinized more than anyone else becaue they are more likely to be gang members or thugs? What about young Mexican men that shave their heads and wear wifebeaters and have goatees? Should they be scrutinized more than others?

At what point do we cry mommy and hide behind our pillows in our bedroom closets with the door locked?
