Big Papi and Ramirez tested positive in 2003

Big Papi said people who tested positive in 2003 should get a ban. So why doesn't he start with himself?

At this point, no one would surprise me. Even Houston's great #7 being on that list wouldn't surprise me because, really, who can we trust anymore?

Baseball has sold its soul to the devil, and its recordbook is meaningless.
Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you...

He said a year ban. If he goes through with it, he will be the one respectable cheater that I would not boo at a game.

The sport itself is innocent. The business of the sport, no. The people, no.

I don't blame the game. And so I can still enjoy watching the pastoral beauty of baseball.

No sport is ever going to wash out the cheaters. Baseball practically encouraged it... even going WAY back before the 1990s. Let's just say that the "red juice" Willie Mays used to drink before and during games wasn't exactly Gatorade.

Texanne said it well. Maybe not a non issue. I love baseball and have chosen to watch the game. The players should be accountable, but how are you going to do that? The ones that have said they did steriods are for the most part still playing. The ones that are fighting this should be responsible also. Baseball isn't the only sport that is having this issue.

hornpharmd,

do you ever wonder about the biceps on any NFL LB? I don't believe for a minute that those guys aren't juiced - just not caught. imo.

There is some degree of cheating going on. If you look at the NFL though historically the cheating occurred much more in the earlier decades. They have a strict testing policy now and there have been some guys caught....notably Merriman a year ago. Their penalties are very severe. The other cases I have seen involved players on the Carolina Panthers the year they won the SuperBowl going to a "wellness" physician who prescribed testosterone replacement for them. I would have to imagine there is some sort use of HGH as well.

However there just hasn't been the scandals that we have seen in MLB and cycling. In cycling you had the so many guys at the top test positive over the last 2-3 years. It has just ruined it for me. In MLB again you have had so many guys at the top testing positive or being implicated....Sosa, McGuire, Bonds, Palmeiro, A-rod, Manny, Ortiz, Clemens, etc, etc,. And the thing with MLB is you have had all these hallowed records falling by the way side. If has such a mark on baseball that it is now called the "steroid era". But baseball did this to itself. The union fought testing for so long and MLB let it go for so long this happened. I did not enjoy cheering for guys breaking records and then later finding out I was being lied to. I was cheering for a cheat and a lie. Perhaps I am just jaded but it is hard ot just turn it back on and watch again this soon. Especially without baseball really doing anything to purge this part of its history. If they went in and started putting asterisks in or something I think that would help. I am a stat guy and if one of my favorite things to discuss about a game is false then there is less to discuss.
