Big Oil and

interesting how much time has been spent trying to discredit climate change skeptics on the basis of relatively small amounts (millions) of funding some of them have received from Big Oil. on the other hand, somehow when governments give huge amounts (billions and tens of billions) to those who are convinced of global warming, we call it "research" and consider it somehow unbiased. well it turns out, those who believe in climate change have been taking plenty of Oil Money too. i guess that argument against skeptics should go out the window. but i doubt it will!

here is a blog (no frakking consensus) that documents the money that has been received by "green" groups who push the AGW orthodoxy: no frakking consensus

come on! someone has to have a thought on this! ok, suffice it to say that the next time one of you tries to say that skeptics are just oil company hacks, i will just bring this back up!

since i work for one of the largest oil companies in the world, i can say from personal experience that we are not in the business of disproving global warming. we clearly are not that great at the pr business anyway because we have allowed environmentalists and democrats to completely demonize us and make a good portion of the population believe that we are evil. shoot, even pixar's new film "cars" puts big oil as the bad guy to scare young kids. oil executives are routinely placed as bad guys in movies.

i have worked in multiple industries, including lobby work for left wing public interest groups and i can say without a doubt, the nicest and smartest people i have ever worked with are in the oil&gas industry. we have our own money invested in our industry and if a time comes to implement a new power source for world consumption, it will be the current large energy companies that provide it. we spend billions with a b each year on research and development for alternative fuels. solar and wind are both economically unviable as is ethanol. The government is well aware of this as they have been provided cost analysis breakdowns for many years down the road that fully explain it. They will continue to throw billions down the drain. I have been told quite a few funny stories regarding meetings with past presidents regarding energy policy. FYI, none of them care about energy policy or what is best. Even if they implement somethihng they know is going to cost a fortune and not work, they know they wont be in office to deal with it. all they care about is making little groups with loud voices happy until they are gone.

we are working on a few other energy sources that would blow peoples minds. we have some of the smartest people on the planet crunching numbers. regardless, there isnt an energy shortage. we have found some new areas with proven reserves that will supply oil & gas for hundreds of years if necessary. we would like to push natural gas as a clean burning alternative but even this has been met with resistance ,by again, environmentalists who have done a good job of spreading the evils of this source eventhough there are none. there really is no way to satisfy the groups against the oil companies. i actually don't think they are pissed about the product, i think its just that they are pissed other people are making money. currently, they are against nuclear, oil, coal and natural gas. this would put us back in horse and buggy forms of transportation. i think this is their actual goal.

thanks general..that's a very interesting take. sounds about right along what i have heard from other friends who work in the Oil industry.

Bevo, energy companies are also spending TONS of money on researching alternative fuels. it would be interesting to see how funding for alternative energies breaks down, but i am confident that energy companies are a big source of it.
