Big East

How happy am I that we won't have to hear everyone talk about how good Georgetown is, or hear Bobby Knight go on and on about how much Pittsburgh impresses him.

I honestly believe the Big East is drifting slowly toward irrelevance, which still will mean at least another decade of having the league crammed down our throats.

As much as I like Bobby in the booth, I hope he learned a valuable lesson this past week: don't get cute with your national champion pick.

I dunno about irrelevance...the league has 16 teams, which means they are always going to have a lot of tourney teams. I just wish talking heads would recognize this when discussing conference strength.

Big East has W. Va, Louisville, and Villanova in the Sweet 16. Pac 10 also has 3: Wash. St., Stanford, and UCLA.

Big 10 has 2: Mich. St. and Wisconsin. Big 12 has two: Texas and KU.

SEC and ACC have one: Tennessee and UNC.

The other teams are Memphis, Davidson, Western Kentucky, and Xavier.

I tend to think more about the "core" big east teams, but even then, I don't see any of the remaining teams going much farther than they have, except possibly Louisville. For me it's probably more about the East Coast fixation than it is the league itself.

I am surprised by how many commentators put their final four with all #1 seeds. How long has it been since this happened?
