Big East trying to add BYU

I know BYU was/is a candidate for Big 12 expansion, so it's interesting that the B/east is trying to pull the Cougars in first. Given the problem (less than 10 teams) with Mizzou trying to leave for the SEC before WVU can join the Big 12, I wonder if this will force the Big 12 to act sooner rather than later on BYU admission?

Big East courting BYU, coach says

i think we should definitely add BYU. they have their own network for tier 3 revenues. they have a large alumni base. essentially, they have a national following; and if you extend that to the populations where their missionaries go, it's an international following (see samoans and other pacific islanders). they've won national championship. they have a heisman trophy winner and other successful players in the NFL (steve young, jim mcmahon, etc).

it doesn't make sense for them to be a part of the big east (same with boise state) geographically. At least Utah is only a 3-4 hour flight. we should make a move while we still can.

as far as other programs, it's been hashed out before, but Cincinnati vs Louisville could be the 12th team. I prefer Cincinnati (even though I was born in Louisville), because their academics are better (national reputation in medicine and beautiful urban campus).

BigXII TV partners already said "no" to BYU due to BYU's requirements -- no games on Sunday; one guaranteed national appearance per year, etc.

I would rather the BigXII to go east instead of west to expand, so I like the Louisville and Cincinatti picks. It would be nice if ND could have their non-FB sports play in the BigXII as well (decision in January) but I don't hold out much hope for that.

Louisville and Cincinnati won't help the Big 12 because these two teams also have the 27-month rule to consider. We need teams who can enter our league before January 2014.

How many teams have to leave the Big East before the 27 month requirement is moot?

Do you just need a majority of the eight football playing members to agree to disband Big East football, or did they lock themselves into a contract such that the Big East commish could force all eight to stay for 27 months even if all eight teams wanted to leave?

Ultimately, I'm curious if you offered a couple more schools entry into the Big 12 or another BCS conference whether the 27 month contract goes away.

this was the same scenario being discussed re: big 12 with a&m leaving. this was before mizzou leaving was really on the table. people were saying if texas/ou left then, the big 12 would dissolve and aggy wouldn't have to pay an exit fee.

seems like big east is taking on water at a faster rate than the big 12 was a few months ago. there's not a marquee football program to anchor the conference. Those that had any history (syracuse, West VA, pittsburgh) are leaving. UCONN wants to leave as well.

Who is going to enforce the 27-month wait period? USF? please.

This is ridiculous. WVU should be the SEC East team and Mizzou should stay in the B12. BYU should be in either the B12 or Pac12 if any BCS conference at all.

With BYU's myriad demands, I don't see how the BE can add them.

I mean, BYU has more demands than Texas or Notre Dame.

However, the BE is certainly prudent in investigating BYU.

If the BE does add BYU, helluva deal for the BE, excellent addition.
