Although NCAA's hopes are all but forgotten unless we have some type of torrid finish, including a win over Baylor, finishing in the top 6 and getting a first round bye in the b12 tournament is still doable. This upcoming Iowa St game will define our season IMO.
So at the halfway point what are the thoughts on how it will play out? I think the floor is going 2-7 (we should beat TCU in Austin and between WV, KU or ISU the law of averages says we win at least one of those). I think the ceiling is 7-2 (I don't see how we beat Baylor no matter if we peak or not). If we don't go 6-3 it's doubtful we finish with a winning record. Unfortunately I see 5-4 being the most likely scenario if we can keep improving. I don't see us pulling out road wins at Tech or OSU. But going 5-4 requires a win tomorrow night, a home win against KU and a road win against KSU which is no small task.
Honestly it's just way too hard to predict how any game, much less the rest of the season is going to turn out. And that goes for every team in the league other than BU. Even TCU, who is winless at this point, has looked good and come close in quite a few games. Five of their nine losses have been single digits. As far as we're concerned I think every contest, with the exception of the two Baylor matchups, is winnable. That doesn't mean I think we're going to finish the rest of league play 7-2, but I would hope we win more than we lose going forward. I think we'll win at least four of our last nine, but winning quite a few more wouldn't surprise me either.
