With Texas gaining a lot of 'Mo', where does Baylor sit?

247sports.com Big 12 Recruiting Roundup

UT currently has a lot of verbal commits (14) but unlike earlier years, there are more 3-stars (8) than 4-stars (6). With a bit of concern about that I have been mulling it over and here is the rosiest scenario I've been able to come up with.

Last year, with the new coach and move to the SEC, A&M had a lot of momentum and there were decommits from UT with subsequent gaps at needed positions for the horns. The Baylors and TCUs had already established good standings with the rising 3-star guys, and UT ended up missing out on a lot of those guys too.

So now it seems since UT no longer has the state of Texas locked up, they may be taking a more SEC approach (Alabama and LSU often and A&M last year), offering scads of recruits, both 4-stars and perceived rising 3-stars, taking the latter as they commit early and with the attitude that it will be made to work if/when the higher ranked guys want to commit later in the process. A&M took well over the 25 limit last year and made it work.

It's a bit riskier since there is limited data on younger players, but it may be necessary in todays recruiting landscape.

We've been burned by plenty of 4-star guys. I could care less if they're stellar or not, as long as they're quasi-productive compared to the likes of Tyrell Gatewood.

Some and maybe most of the 3 stars will be 4 stars by the end of their senior seasons once people/raters get a chance to see them. I suspect many are relative unknowns to the rating folks and are now on the radar since they have committed.

All that being said, I want players that end up being star college players regardless what their star rating was coming out of high school.
