Honestly, I don't think that notion is that far fetched.
A&M won the conference and still has a good team, and yet finished losing 8 of 9 - but against good teams. Two of them on the road against a team that went 26-3-1 at home this year (Nebraska), four of them against one of the hottest teams in the country (Texas).
NU was third in this conference despite having to play Baylor, OSU, MU and Texas on the road.
An immensely talented Texas team finished FIFTH in the Big 12 and there are going to be commentators who will pick them as a darkhorse for Omaha.
And, the Big 12 is #2 in conference ISR and #3 in conference RPI.
I know the Big 12 has to prove it this postseason and a lot depends on the draw, but I'd be shocked if there isn't at least one and maybe two Big 12 teams still standing when Omaha starts.
IMO, the notion that the Big 12 is the country's best conference is not that far fetched.
