Big 12 > SEC

Top to Bottom, the Big 12 is the best conference in the nation. I tried to put together a fairly non-biased ranking of each conference. With those matchups, I'd predict the Big 12 to go 8-4. The strength of the Big 12's middle four is where the difference between the conferences really shows.1. Oklahoma vs. Georgia (OU wins - UGA falling apart with injuries and arrests. Totally underwhelmed by UGA's performance against GSU)2. Missouri vs. Florida (Mizzou wins - Both are very good, but I can't shake the fact that Florida lost to Michigan last year. I watched the first half of the UF game and was surprised how easily a terrible Hawaii team was moving the ball early on.)3. Texas vs. LSU (Texas wins - Great matchup of teams. On the field matchups favor UT. LSU would be forced to put the game in Hatch's hands.)

4. Texas Tech vs. Auburn
(Auburn wins - Tough game to predict but Tech has trouble with defenses filled with great athletes. On the other hand, Auburn is banged up and may not be able to get the run game going.)

5. Kansas vs. Alabama
(Bama - I really have no clue but I'll give it to Bama just because the college football world is in love with them right now. Before Bama stomped Clemson i would've gone with KU. Part of me feels like Clemson is just that bad (ACC) and not to read too much into it. Need to see more games before forming a real opinion)

6. Oklahoma St. vs. South Carolina
(OSU - Great matchup for OSU. Cowboys can put up points on anyone. USC, not so much. OSU's defensive problems no liability here because USC will be forced to throw the ball and neither QB is that great.)

7. Nebraska
vs. Tennessee
(Neb. - If Tenn. can't beat an injury-riddled UCLA, then Vols can't beat Nebraska)

8. Colorado
vs. Ole Miss
(CU - Buffs are well ahead of Ole Miss right now. Snead hasn't shown anything yet.)

9. Kansas St.
vs. Kentucky
(KSU - Really don't have a strong opinion on this one. Both teams looked good against weak opponents. Kentucky lost everyone from last year and need to show more before anyone will believe they could beat a team like KSU.)

10. Iowa St.
vs. Vanderbilt
(ISU - Vandy has lost too much. Convinced me they're not the worst in the SEC, but Chizik has built a stronger team)

11. Texas A&M vs. Arkansas
(Ark. - Pillow fight! Hogs are less terrible)

12. Baylor vs. Mississippi St.
(MSU - Baylor actually showed glimpses and MSU looked horrible losing to La. Tech, but I'd still go with MSU just because they showed something last year.)

Obviously, this is totally academic and subjective. There could be any number of ways to rank conferences but I like this one. Obviously others will have different opinions, but this is how I see it.

What about Mothra? Who can play against the field coverage of Mothra?

And you forget that ou would likely play Georgia in a BCS game. Advantage Georgia.

are you serious? SEC is the best football conference in America.

1. SEC
2. SEC JV
3. AFC
4. SEC Recruits 2009
5. NFC
6. SEC Recruits 2010
7. who cares?

1) OU vs. GA...I'd take GA. It is an even battle in the coaching department and I think even with the injuries they have more players. I may be wrong, but I'm not convinced that OU is a NC contender.

2) Mizzou vs. FL...I'd take Florida. Chase Daniel's leadership isn't enough to overcome less talent (see game vs OU last year). Urban Meyer is a lot better on the big stage than Pinkel.

3) UT vs. LSU...I'd take us, ironically because of coaching. Talent is a wash, but I think Miles has screwed himself by setting himself in an advesarial role with Mack. The fact that he lost all those comebacks would cause him to "press" and we'd play looser and better.

4) Tech vs. AU...I'd take Auburn. I think they are better in every phase. Auburn does "sleep" every once in a while, but if they are ready, they roll over Tech.

5) KU vs. Bama...I'd take Kansas. I'm not totally sold on Saban as a coach. He's a great recruiter/builder of programs(if anything goes). He gets out coached by Kansas who is comparable to the Tide in talent.

6) OSU vs South Carolina...I'd take OSU. Talent advantage and Spurrier has lost a bit of his edge.

7) NU vs. Tenn...Tempting pick, but I'll take Tenn as the vols play a lot better over the coarse of the season. NU is several years away in terms of talent. We still don't know how Bo will do leading a whole ship.

8) CU vs. Ole Miss...I take CU, better team in all phases at the moment.

9) KSU vs. Kentucky...I take KSU. Neither coach can string it together for a season. KSU is better at QB.

10) ISU vs Vandy...ISU has better players and the second year for a coach is usually better than the first.

11) A&M vs. Ark...Ark already beat them, oh wait that was another team in their state. Serious trouble for gig'em.

12) BU vs. MSU...I'll take BU. I think Briles would out coach Croom and make up for the talent deficiency.

That is 7-5 in favor of the Big 12. I wasn't counting until I got to the end.

I would drool over a matchup with the Vols. We'd beat them by at least 14.

1. Oklahoma vs. Georgia: Edge goes to the Bulldogs

2. Missouri vs. Florida: Florida because I'm not sold on Mizzou

3. Texas vs. LSU: Edge goes to Texas because of QB experience

4. Texas Tech vs. Auburn: I'll take Auburn

5. Kansas vs. Alabama: Crimson Tide (again....not sold on sold on Big XII North teams)

6. Oklahoma St. vs. South Carolina: Gamecocks all the way

7. Nebraska vs. Tennessee: Vols due to solid athletes and steady coaching staff

8. Colorado vs. Ole Miss: Buffs because Ole Miss sucks

9. Kansas St. vs. Kentucky: K State because Kentucky sucks

10. Iowa St. vs. Vanderbilt: Cyclones

11. Texas A&M vs. Arkansas: Razorbacks because the Ags can't even beat Arky Lite

12. Baylor vs. Mississippi St.: MSU...too easy

Big 12 > SEC? I don't think so. I have it 8-4 Southeastern.

OK, I hate the SEC homers as much as anyone, but at the end of the day I think they're right -- the SEC is the best conference in the country, although not "head and shoulders" above the others like they like to think.

I think the conference rankings go like this:
1. SEC
2. Big 12
3. Big Ten
4. Pac-10
5. ACC
6. Big East

As far as your matchups are concerned, here's my analysis:

Kansas returns almost everyone from a team that won an Orange Bowl. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be sold on KU, beyond the fact that it's "Kansas." Again, I don't think that Clemson win will end up looking that great.

I think all the love for Florida is just a product of the hype. The Gators went 9-4 last year, nothing special, and their best win all year was against Kentucky. Last year, there's no way that Florida would've spanked Mizzou and I don't see why that would change this year, especially with Percy Harvin banged up. Mizzou destroyed an Arkansas team that beat LSU, the SEC champions.

Kansas proved last year they knew how to finish ball games, Bama didn't and has only done it once this year.

That and i'm not sure you can throw Bama at #5 in the SEC after just one game, we'll know better after we see Bama play some light weights (whether they play down to their competition or actually bring their lunch pail)

There should be zero doubt that Missouri was better than Florida last year. Is there any particular reason to think that Florida has gotten noticeably better and Missouri has gotten noticeably worse?

I would say that Florida might be worse than last year, at least if this game were played today. Not only is Harvin out, but they are banged up on the OL. I would take Mizzou in a heartbeat, no question.

I think I wrote this early last season, also in an "SEC not that great" thread: they certainly benefit from hype and image, but there is no doubt it's the only conference that every single year forces teams to play at least 2-3 seriously difficult road games.

Missouri's road games last season were Ole MIss (SEC, I know), OU, Colorado and K-State. They got KU, OU and Arkansas at neutral sites with plenty of their fans on hand.

Florida went to Ole Miss, LSU, Kentucky and South Carolina then got UGA and Michigan at neutral sites. That's about as easy as it gets in the SEC on the road, and it's still tougher than Missouri's road schedule.

IMO, the SEC has six extremely tough road venues (UF, LSU, Aub, Ala, UT, UGA) and a couple others that can be depending on how good the teams are (USC, Ark).

The B12 has three consistently tough venues (OU, TT and NU) with TAMU also having a home edge at least in the past. Texas, MU and KU may have great teams but the home fields aren't intimidating anyone.

An 8-4 record against the SEC sounds like domination to me.

Big 12 is the best conference by far based on the assessment. Now someone just needs to show the results of these games to ESPN so they can quit their lovefest.

1) Georgia. Can OU beat a ranked opponent outside of the conference?
2) Florida in a clooooose one.
3) LSU ... by 10
4) Auburn by 10
5) Bama by 10
6) USC by 7
7) Tossup.. let's go NEb in a clooose one.
8) Ole MIss in a cloose one
9) Kentucky in a rout
10) vandy/iowa state.. who cares..
11) arky.. who cares...
12) msu i guess...

Mizzou plays all of 3 ranked teams in the reg season... Illinos (over rated.. Texas at 10.. and Kansas at 12..) That's it folks.
Pretty easy route to win the North.. only to get beat by OU... again.. Only to see OU lose another BCS game.

When was the last top 10 team texas beat?? tOSU in 2005??

Picking TX to win over LSU ??? Based on QB? Teams don't play defense anymore??

Just some random points to consider.....
This is the best the Big XII conference has been ever.. I'll give 'em that.

Some other statistics that ESPN and others may consider when talking tough road games and exciting places to cover games:The SEC has led in football fan attendance for the past nine seasons.

2005 Attendance Numbers:

Conf ---------- Average

SEC ----------- 74,583
Big Ten -------- 72,566
Big 12 --------- 58,397
