Bicycle Fatality in Cupertino (Bay Area)

The Link

I was biking towards the same area just ten minutes before this happened, when a guy walking his dog told me that the road was closed because of an accident.

Really put a damper on the day. I had planned a 30 mile route for the day, didn't really feel like doing much after I heard about what happened.

I hope BOTH cyclists and drivers will be more careful when out on the roads.

Two very dangerous locations also in the South Bay Area

- I see the grim "Bicyclist/Pedestrian Fatality At This Location - Did You Witness It?" sign on Central Expressway quite often. Why the hell would a bicyclist ride on Central? And for pedestrians it might as well be suicide.

- Some bicyclist will be killed in Mountain View at the T intersection of Moorpark & Dana. The empty side of the T intersection is a hiking/biking trail exit shrouded with bushes and trees. It would seem that bicyclists are required to stop (as is Dana traffic), but bicyclists frequently come flying out in to the intersection without slowing down much or at all. I came within a foot of flattening one such bicyclist. I slammed my brakes just barely in time. The bicyclist gave me the bird and called me a ******.

Y'all are talking about biking on a freeway?

Obviously a horrible idea, yet I see people riding MoPac all the time.

That's some ****** up ****.

Not really a freeway, its an expressway, speed limit is 45 mph, but cars go all the way upto 60, there is a bike lane, but it dissapears every now and then and has exits which make it difficult for bikers.

Sounds like a pretty insane place to try to ride a bike.

I will now refer back to my "common sense" passage earlier in the thread.
