Better Hire Some Ex-Cons or Gov Will Sue

Does this mean that the Government will stop denying security clearances to convicted felons? There are jobs that require the applicant to qualify for a clearance, so by extension of the government's argument in these cases, they themselves are discriminating against a class (convicted felons) and thus blocking them from employment.

Hey, if these companies don't hire ex-cons, how are guys like Orlando Shaw going to pay the child support? Link.

"Hey, you can't knock no man for luvin' women!" - might be the quote of the century.

A Seattle councilman (and mayoral candidate) has introduced legislation prohibiting businesses from discriminating against ex-felons. His logic is that if these people can't find work then they are at high risk for recidivism. I see his logic but also think businesses need the ability to lower their risk by excluding ex-cons in their labor force. For example, you wouldn't want an embezzler running the cash register.

Seattle, embezzlers are best left to running the Treasury Dept.

I guess the saying "fox in a hen house" has lost it's meaning.

I agree with you Texas Ex with regards to non-profits focused on getting ex-cons back into the workforce. I'm not sure they have the scale to handle the 1 in 4 black males that will spend time in prison. It's a problem that society's current answer for is to build more prisons.

I don't think we want to dilute the consequences, dare I say "stigma," of a jail sentence because of race.

It's insulting to a black father or mother to hear "don't worry about jail for your son...he's black, that happens to all of us. It's no big deal."
