Best Wedding Venues in TX or MI

I am looking for a nice wedding venue. I'd like a castle/mansion type venue (but I welcome all suggestions) that can accomodate at least 200 people. I also prefer that the place allows outside catering but this point is not a deal breaker for me. Nothing too crazy because I would like to keep it under 70K

Thanks!

Sister is getting married in June in Detroit at the Detroit Athletic Club...seems pretty cool if you need to have it in MI

Lady Bird Wildflower Research Center was one of the coolest weddings I've ever attended.

It's kind fo set up like a castle, too, even has a lookout tower.

$70K?? Geeze. Sometimes I think you straight people can keep your marriage stuff. I don't need it that bad.

To answer your question...it's been a while, but one of the nicer weddings I have been to was at The Mansion on Turtle Creek.

Medieval Times in Dallas. Way, way less than 70K.

Dudes, 70K is the absolute max - I probably wouldn't go over 50K. I'd be content with a small wedding but these things are usually out of the guy's hands and I am NOT in control. I repeat, I am NOT in control.

I remember touring Thistlehill as a kid for a field trip. That place is a very nice old mansion, and I never thought of it as the setting for a wedding, but I really can't imagine much better. That would be a great place to have it.

I have been to a wedding reception at the Driskill and it was very elegant.

Prefer to be as close to the Detroit area as possible but I don't mind going anywhere for the right place. In Texas, I'd like to be as close to Dallas as possible but again, the right place is the right place.

I went to a wedding reception at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club a few years back. The Link

Also, Orchard Lake Country Club is a nice spot for a reception. The Link

Both may be tough to get into if you don't know a member.

Falkenstein Castle - I have never been there but our friends did to check it out and said it was very nice outside, but kind of cheesy inside.

I went to a wedding at the the Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn, Mi and it is just like a castle type setting with beautiful grounds/gardens.
The Grand Hotel would be too expensive.

I attended a wedding at the Bingham House in McKinney not long ago. Seemed like a nice place. I have no idea how much it would cost to rent the place, but the people who put on the wedding weren't exactly wealthy, so I can't imagine it would be extremely pricey.

No suggestion on location but as far as budget, I had a 300-person semi-formal wedding without skimping on anything, even bought the bridesmaid dresses and shoes and paid for the tuxes, for $30,000. For $70,000 there better be diamonds covering that dress.

second the Grand Hotel on Mackinac. My brother and his wife were fans of "Somewhere in Time" and went there for the honeymoon. They rave about it to this day.

WashU,

My sister had her reception a few summers ago at the Dallas Arboretum. Check into it. There was enough room (easily) for the 400+ at her reception, a great and new building with direct access to White Rock lake in one of the few clean areas of waterfront left. Look into it, and PM me if you would like any further information. My father is on the board of the arboretum and can answer any questions you may have.

Just got married a couple months ago at One World Theater here in Austin.

It's a great venue. Really nice because you have the ceremony in the theater itself, the dinner either outside on the patio (with great views) or in the ballroom, and then back up to the theater for the dancing.

It's a beautiful place and everyone at our wedding talked about how cool and unique they thought it was. We did ours for a good bit less than $70k, but we only had 100 guests. (the place will fit 300+ I think).

The only downside is that you have to use their pre-approved list of vendors and we didn't love their caterer.

Good luck.
