Best way to get a plant out of a pot

I have these red yuccas that have finally outgrown the pots they're in. The only problem is, the pots narrow toward the lip and so you can't just shake/shimmy/pull them out. I've always thought I would just have to sledgehammer the pots (didn't pay much) to get them out. But I hate to destroy perfectly good and actually somewhat pretty glazed pottery. Any ideas?

Hmmmm -

Maybe take a water hose w/ a strong spray nozzle. Use that to blast out all the soil w/in the pot. tha tmight buy you some extra room. I'm thinking to have nothing left but roots left.

You have one thing going for you... red yucca are tough sumbitches. After the water treatment, grab 'em buy the crown (where all the leaves meet the growing base) and pull, you might lose a few leaves, but if the crown itself stays intact, they'll be OK.
You can also cut some, or alot, of the roots to help getting them out. If you want some insurance, go get some 'Super Thrive' to use at transplant time. Should be easy to find at good nursuries. (great stuff).

Remember, They're tuff plants.
