You should be able to get a damn nice Honda Accord for $8,000. You can get a 2000-2001, 4-door, 4-cylinder for maximum reliability and fuel efficiency. If want a V-6 or a Coupe, you might have to go back to a 1998-1999 model.
I was a bit aprehensive about buying my 1989 Accord Coupe with 90k miles on it for $6,900. I drove it 7-years and the odometer read 232k when I sold. It still ran like a top when I sold. The AC condenser and the break master cylinder were the only non-wear items the were ever replaced.
Thats where we buy used cars. Have bought some AWESOME cars from them: 2 Lexuses, 1 Acura, and Honda. Cars are phenomenal - its worth the drive to Houston to save money.
2001 Ford Ranger--45k automatic, V6 gets 21 MPG
3rd Ranger--never did more than replace a battery and oil changes
They over engineered them or something
I think the accord thing is your best bet. It is a very nice car for the price. I have a 98 5spd that has never broken down, I've only done routine maintanence. I have 93k miles now, and I bought it used at 10k. I say go Accord.
Thanks all. I used to have a '96 CIVIC EX Coupe and it was awesome. I drive hard and it still got almost 30mpg and I never had problems. The accord sounds good now though. Civic is a little small for me now with family.
I like the Ford Ranger too, but I would have to get the big cab and all. I'm checking that houston link right now.
