Best tattoo artist in Austin?

Had a small design in mind for a long time that I want to go ahead and pull the trigger on. Not sure where to go, though.

Would like to hear from those with experience.

Again, not looking for a big sleeve or whole back thing . . . just want somebody who takes pride in their work and aims to please.

Hope this hasn't been discussed recently. Thanks in advance for the replies.

I don't have any tatoos nor would I recommend anyone do it.

But my friends tell me 'Bear' who used to be at True Blue Tatoo. But I don't think he is there anymore.

FWIW, Karen Slafter at Resurrection Tatoo in Austin was on the cover of Austin Chronicle Oct 2007 Best of Austin issue as the best tatoo artist in Austin.

The only thing I can tell you is that I got a piercing at Atomic years ago and I loved that guy so I would recommend them to anyone. I don't even know if he's still there.

I just looked at their website and his name isn't up there. Doesn't matter anyway because you want a tatt.

coming to hornfans for sound tattoo advice is never, ever a good idea.

with that said, most of the artists at southside are pretty accomplished.

I walked in for a simple Longhorn tat and walked out with this. Bitchin', huh?

Ugly as **** Tattoo thread.
I'm not sure which is worse, the guy with the vagina on his knee cap or the guy whose dead bride came out looking like Gene Simmons.

Seriously, my advice to to think back to about 25 years ago. If you had to pick the one clothing outfit that you would have to wear every single day for the rest of your life, what would it have been?

Some of us idiots would be walking around today with a pair of parachute pants and a t-shirt with some japanese writing on it and the sleeves torn off and a bandana rolled up and tied around our knee. Which looked pretty sweet back in '83. Today you'd look like a pathetic loser.

A smarter guy would have chosen some simple jeans and a collared shirt, which is never really all that trendy to begin with but also never goes out of style.

Approach your tattoo in the same manner. If it's anything trendy today, you will regret it tomorrow. There are lots of guys right now that wish they didn't have barbed wire around their arm, and Indian Chief on their shoulder, a tribal band with a feather hanging down from it, a cartoon character, or some motivational word written in Chinese or Hawaiian or some other language you don't even speak.

Just for clarification, I've already got a couple tattoos. They're small, and on my left ankle. I had always planned to get several tattoos-- symbols that have significance to me-- all the way around the ankle. No regrets for what's there so far, and the image that I have in mind is something that I've wanted for a while now.

I agree that there's no place for trendiness in tattoos. Someday there are going to be nursing homes full of Alzheimer's patients with barbed wire around their upper arms, tramp stamps on their low back, and chinese symbols that seemed profound 50 years before.

It matters A LOT who does your tattoo! If they don't do it right, then it will affect how the tattoo sits on your skin, and also a lot of other stuff too.

All of the artists at Atomic on Burnett are great though.

i'm partial to the guys/gals on east sixth across the street from nuevo leon. forget their name by my roommate swears by them and they have great skills. but i agree, if its just a touch up, you can probably go anywhere.
