Best Superbowl in quite sometime

The perfect season going down.

The dynamic ending with both teams driving down the field for potentially game-winning touchdowns in the last 3 minutes.

The Tom Petty half-time show.

I personally loved it.

best performance by a front 4 I've seen in a long while. Eli's 4th quarter heroics were something else too. That scramble was VY-esque.

I was rooting for the Pats but this was a great game.

In my opinion, the 2000 Super Bowl with the Rams/Titans was the best one in recent memory.

At first I thought it was cheesy to have Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers at halftime, but -duh- I knew every word to every song and really enjoyed it.

In my opinion, the U2 performance at the 2002 Super Bowl cannot be topped.

OK, I'll bite. How in the hell is Tom Petty "cheesy"?

He's pretty much the antithesis of "cheesy".

And if you have to go back to 2000 to come up with a better Super Bowl, then I'd say you're on board with the idea that this was the best Super Bowl in "quite sometime".

And yes, Manning's scramble was breathtaking, in its own moderately-athletic way. Couldn't believe it. I went from "get down, get down" to "holy ****".

I'd put this one in the top 3 mostly because of the undefeated angle. That added a lot of excitement to it. Take that away and it would be a good game but not quite the adrenalin maker it was today. Plus that 3rd and 5 miracle play is one for the ages. Petty was solid, if not overly exciting, but nailed the performance.

One of the top 3 (not counting when your team wins it)

You're right, jimmyjazz, I should rephrase. Tom Petty is not cheesy. I thought (originally) that they were going for a very "safe" choice as they have done since Nipplegate. I was surprised at the choice because there had been no Tom Petty hit in some time.

That being said, I really liked halftime. "Make it last (make it last) all nigheeeet."

I agree about the U2 performance. That was a performance worthy of the biggest stage (Not counting the World Cup or Olympics).

This ending was pretty epic. Kinda reminded me of the Rams vs. Titans finish. That Super Bowl made me so sad.

I would have to go back to the 89 game to find one that matches this one.

I thought that the Pats wins were all great, HOWEVER, they lacked one thing - a win or lose drive. The Pats had a few SB winning kicks, but they all came with the game tied. If you go back to the 89 game, that was the last time they game winning drive was succeed or lose.

Tonight had that and more. 2 potential game winning scores. A play that people will be talking about for a while (Tyree's catch), and drama. Titans-Rams, Panthers-Pats - good games, but this surpassed them.

I too thought halftime would suck. It very definitely did not suck. I enjoyed it more than any other I can remember.

Did Tom Petty thank some Chinese chick after one of his songs? I thought I heard him say "xie xie" and then something else sounding like "wah" while pointing to someone near the front of the stage.

I usually don't give s **** about the superbowl unless it is one of my teams but this game was awesome. Feels like it's been a long time since the superbowl was actually a good game.

plus no britney or JT messing up the half time show

Not that it was that tense of a game, but a rival to this one would be the 49ers last minute win over the Bengals on a length-of-field drive to win the game with about 30 seconds remaining. Different circumstances, but a drive to win.

As much as I wanted the Pats to lose this one, I remember hurrahing their win over the Rams, even remember the cafe I was sitting in watching the game in Menlo Park, CA.

Overall, I think the NFL came out the big winner in this game. I think the ratings for regular season just shot up for next year, and the playoffs next season will be a Whoever-Can-Get-It type of thing. No guaranteed winners. Open season. Just make the playoffs and you can make a run.

Interest in the Super Bowl in general just shot up immensely. If an 18-0 Patriots with their coach can't guarantee a win against a 5th seeded wild card team that had to play four straight on the road, then this game has truly become a competitive sporting event. Gamblers beware also. Your spread don't mean jack.

I also think the defensive linemen and DE's stock in the draft for '08 just went up. Off-season trades for those positions should be at a premium. Everybody in this parity league will now want a core defense up front hounding the quarterback deep into the playoffs. That and the best offensive tackles money can by, especially left tackle.

THe fourth quarter was great, back and forth.
The halftime-good.
Didn't really care which team won, but the undefeated season gave an extra reason to watch, and the game was close throughout, although the first three quarters were somewhat boring.

David vs Goliath
When in doubt, go with a classic (Tom Petty)
Game came down to the final seconds
David trumps Goliath

The only thing that would have made it better is it being the Cowboys that did all that instead of the giants..

I'll attempt to pull a top 5 Super Bowls ever off the top of my head with not a whole lot of thought put into it.

5. Denver 31, Green Bay 24
4. Saint Louis 23, Tennessee 16
3. New York (G) 17, New England 14
2. San Francisco 20, Cincinnati 16
1. Pittsburgh 35, Dallas 31

1. New England 32, Carolina 29 (Houston, TX)
2. St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee Titans 16 (Atlanta, GA)
3. New York Giants 17, New England 14 (Glendale, AZ)
4. New York Giants 20, Buffalo Bills 19 (Tampa, FL)
5. Denver 31, Green Bay 24 (San Diego, CA)

If I were to objectively rank them, I'd put this one about 6th. The five best were:

5. Dallas - Pitt. 27-17
4. Cowboys - Buffalo 52-17
3. 'boys-broncs 27-10
2. Big D - Buffalo 30-13
1. Dallas - Miami 24-3

I love a good defensive struggle. I'm one of the weirdos who thought in the 2006 season that Auburn 7, LSU 3 was a classic and Ohio State 42, Michigan 39 was a snoozefest. Last night's game was classic. And one of the East Alabamians on that NY Giants line should've been the MVP, with all due respect to Eli.

Yes it was a good game, if you take out 3 of the most boring quarters of football this year.

The MVP fumbled twice and threw and INT. Sorry, I don't know what game y'all were watching.

It wasn't bad, but the best? Not by a long shot.

Great game. The best superbowl I have seen was the Cowboy Steeler Superbowl, some of the best talent on the field in that game.
