Best Steakhouse in Town?

III Forks is now numero uno and ain't even close. Have been *very* pleased with a tasty steak every time. Great service. Pretty good environment. And great steak.

Second is Austin Land & Cattle. Don't like the environment but steaks are pretty good.

Third is probably Flemings......maybe Eddie V's but that isn't really a true 'steakhouse'.

Last place is Sullivans, which sucks.

Thoughts?

The Statesman's recent review of "Trio", the revamped restaurant at The Four Seasons claimed that it was the best steakhouse in town. (I haven't tried it.)

Huh . . . I had the prime NY strip at Truluck's Arboretum the other night, and it was passable at best, considering the price ($42). I had a tenderloin at Gypsy a couple of weeks ago that blew it away, and only cost $26. It's ostensibly an "Italian" restaurant, but they only have one pasta dish, and lots of great entrees like my tenderloin, lamb chops, etc. (Sorry to veer off topic, but everyone needs to try Gypsy. It's on Barton Springs, roughly across from Daughtry Arts Center.)

III Forks, you get what you pay for, fantastic meat.

I like Austin Land & Cattle as well, nice family owned place with great service.

Last time we were in, a person in our group asked the waiter about the seasoning used on the meat, about a minute later the owner was at our table explaining how they age the meat and use a rub. He proceeded to give everyone at the table a small container of their special recipe rub. I like that kind of customer attention.

I didn't read that original post very well. I like Austin Land & Cattle better than Truluck's Arobretum also. I always get the center cut filet.

We haven't tried III Forks but it is on the list.....

I know it not in Austin but I would LOVE the see a Pappas Steakhouse come to town.

Sullivans, in my opinion, is a joke now. Service is nothing spectacular and the last two times I have been there, my steak was average at best. Not worth the money.

III forks in Dallas is good.

Aren't they affiliated with Cool River?

Anyway, I am a Flemming's guy all the way.

Surprisingly, the Gumbo's craw fish etouffee covered tenderloin is one of the better cuts of meat I have had in this town.

The Hoffbrau...swimming in butter and unhealthy for you like eating out should be....you amateurs.

agreed on iii forks and austin land & cattle co. definitely my two favorites.

for a different, but incredible, experience go to zoot and get the set menu with wine pairings.

i always enjoy fleming's. i would not put trulucks's in the top 5, since only the strip is the only piece of prime grade beef on the menu.
