I am driving from Austin to Lake Charles on Friday afternoon. I get off work at 2:30 and will leave then. What would be the best route around Houston ? I want to be at the craps table as soon as possible!

Thanks! "Hook Em"

Straight through town on I-10.

Eastbound 610 north has two construction sites with lanes closed.

West 610 is horrible from10 to 59, and then South Loop backs down at 288, 45, and Ship Channel Bridge.

The Toll Road is about 45 minutes out of your way going South, and an hour going north.

Depending on where you work, you should hit Houston about 5:15. Most of the traffic going east on 10 hits the freeway between 5:10 & 5:30. ten minutes can save you 30 minutes.

I-10 on east side will slow down for San Jacinto River bridge.

Alternative is to take 10 through town to Beltway 8 on east side, then go north to Hwy 90 and take it through Dayton, Liberty, Raywood, Ames, Devers, Nome, China into Beaumont. Seems horriible, particularly the two lane part east of Liberty, but is actually only about 15 minutes slower.

KTRH, 740 AM has traffic every ten minutes and can guide you around the wrecks if there are any.

Between Winnie & Beaumont, the cops use unmarked Tahoes (gray or black). Usely around mile post 835 to 845.

Probably on the opposite side around 5:30.

BTW, I talked to a temp receptionist in our Post Oak office, who lives in Baytown. She said straight out I-10 is no less than half an hour faster..

Watch out for DPS around mile post 789-797 and 813. They will work in pairs.
