best photo editing software?

My wife wants some new photo editing software. Is photoshop still the standard out there? If not, any other suggestions for her?

photoshop is probably the most powerful. "Best" depends on exactly what you're going to do with it.

If it's for personal use, you'll likely find the far cheaper Photoshop Elements to be more to your liking.

If she isn't sure whether or not she needs the $650 professional version or the $100 home version, she won't need the $650 version.

Thanks. She doesn't need anything fancy. She mostly wants it for scrapbooking and to make various fliers for church events.

"best" is subjective. for me, a graphic designer and retoucher photoshop is the most useful, but for someone who doesn't know retouching or photoshop extensively, it's overkill. most people who "use" photoshop probably only explore about 2% of its features.

If she wants to make flyers and things like that, Adobe Illustrator is fantastic. It's not a photo-editor like Photoshop, but it really is a great program to use.

Everything your describing she wants to do screams Photoshop Elements. It's great for organizing all your pics, doing any editing required from the most simple to very complex, and has a lot of great out of the box stuff for making flyers, invitations, cards, etc.
