I was watching Back to the Future the other day and i still love Michael J. Fox's performance at the end. It got me to thinking of the great musical performances done in movies by none professional musicians/singers. Trying to think of more. Tia Carrere's Ballroom Blitz in Wayne's World was pretty good.

Except he didn't play it or sing it. He does play in Light of Day and sing as well. He's actually pretty decent playing (not so much singing), but there was a big difference between the two performances.

And an honorable mention nod to Beverly D'Angelo, who co-starred with Sissy in CMD and who also did her own singing.

Yes, Eyes, Joaquin did do his own singing in that film (as did Reese). I had forgotten about that. Great musical performance.

Gene Kelly, Cyd Charrise, Van Johnson, in Brigadoon.

Nobody is going to nominate Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin in Paint Your Wagon?

Sorry, folks. The most moving musical performance in any movie was La Marseillaise in Casablanca:
The Link
The movie was filmed during WWII, and most of the cast were refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe. The tears and cheers were real.

I have seen that movie a thousand times, and I still cannot watch that scene without getting a lump in my throat.

Hereby nominated or seconded.

But dude, it's THE MARSEILLES!!!

If the Frogs had any nuts in the mid 1930's WW II would have never had taken place. Hitler would have been overthrown or assasinated long before.

Innstead the appeasing French and English let the Nazi's bluff their way through the Sudenatland< the Czechs, etc......

No, Y Sanchez, it's La Marseillaise:
The Link
(or maybe you're just commenting on the fact that it's a French song. I won't argue that point.)

Did Heath Ledger sing "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" himself in "10 Things I Hate About You"?

It was a great scene if not a great cover.
