Best Long distance service?

So who has it? I use Tmobile 300min for 50 bucks a month and have no home phone, as I use RR for internet.

My grandmother just moved here and I setup her office(yes she is 86 and still has an office) with a server so she can access her info from Austin. I have never been able to get great results with one of the voice messenger programs.
She needs to talk to her secretary in abilene alot, so I was wondering whether to go with a Voice over IP on her side(she has rr in austin), or if there is really cheap long distance service(in state). I remember hooking my roommate up with a 5cent a minute, no monthly fee a few years back when we were living together.
Anything out there like that or better now that VOIP is out?

Thanks,

I was just checking out regular phone long distance rates, and I have never understood why it is more expensive to call instate the out of state? WTF? Anyone have a logical answer for this? I really hope VOIP takes off to end this ****.

VOIP is not perfectly reliable yet. I would get her a 2.96 cent / minute prepaid card at Sam's or Costco and be done with it.

Clarence, I disagree, VOIP is very reliable now. I've had packet8 for a year. For the past 6 months the phone quality is better than a regular phone line. Furthermore i get the same features such as voice mail, caller id, 3 way calling etc. It also comes with unlimited local and long distance to all 50 states and canada.

All this for only 20.55 after taxes. Best $20 I spend every month.

any major VoIP vendor will do you fine, otherwise go w/ IDT.

does any read this crap? I ask b/c this on of those topics that comes up every other week. does this info not get around Texas very fast/well?
