Best 'in a pinch' BBQ sauce

I know you should make your own sauce, but in a pinch what do you buy at the store?

My favorite back in WI was Sweet Baby Rays. I kind of like Stubbs too. I've become familiar w/ the Salt Lick stuff and while I like it, I get sick of it if I have it too often. I'm not into the hot stuff. So, is there any good local stuff I should try to find?

I think you hit the usual suspects. Usually Stubbs for me or Ruby's, and you can get Head Country at Wally World now which isn't bad.

Central Market has a house brand organic, mustard-based sauce that is really close to Salt Lick- and is much cheaper.

It seems like Maul's was pretty popular in the midwest too- though it's a pretty basic sauce. See KC Masterpiece up there quite a bit too.

Stubbs, + some added honey & brisket drippings.

1/2 Kraft honey mustard + 1/4 Kraft Hickory Smoke + 1/4 some spicy BBQ sauce I find at Walmart, but I don't know the name...

It gives you a range of flavors in each bite...

Cattlemen's is the only store bought sauce I really like. The classic one is good. The Southern Gold is the only other one I have tried. It is good for out of a bottle but not as good as you will find in any decent BBQ joint in the Carolinas.

Cattlemen's

I'm with the Sooner on Cattleman's. I think it's easier to work with by adding vinegar, honey, drippings, whatever. Stubb's is just off for my taste.

Another vote for Head Country. Stubbs would be my second choice.

Hell...if you're really in a pinch add two parts ketchup and one part cider vinegar with salt, black pepper and cayenne with brisket drippings to flavor. It's not my preferred home-made sauce but it's easy to remember.
